Gregg McMillan Obituary

Gregg Allen McMillan

March 4, 1949 ~

November 20, 2025

Saint George, UT-

Gregg Allen McMillan, our beloved dad and grandpa, lovingly known by friends and family as "Mac", "Walter", and "Double G", of St. George, Utah, died suddenly on Thursday November 20th, 2025, at the age of 76.

He was born March 4, 1949, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Don Michael McMillan and Blanch Boulton McMillan.

Gregg's early years were spent on the Boulton farm in Salt Lake City and later the family moved to Murray. He graduated from Murray High School in 1967, after which he served his country in the US Navy in spite of a profound dislike of ships. He went on to earn a degree in education from Utah State University in 1975.

Gregg had several careers spanning education to construction and building design. He had many passions and was most excited when he was creating. He was a master craftsman, stained glass artist and builder, having built and remodeled several homes. He was passionate about stained glass and loved creating and sharing his work with people he loved.

A lifelong educator, Gregg had a rare gift for seeing potential in everyone and igniting curiosity in young minds. His students, his grandchildren, and anyone fortunate enough to have shared a conversation with him felt his impact as a teacher, mentor, and friend. He never stopped learning, and had a positive impact on so many people, young and old.

Much of Gregg's life was lived in Murray, but he truly found his home in St. George. He loved the southwest and found inspiration in the desert landscape and petroglyphs of Southern Utah.

Gregg had a fulfilling social life, playing golf and hosting gatherings at his home. He worked at Green Springs Golf Course and played regularly with his wonderful group of friends. The hours spent there filled his life with purpose and camaraderie.

He is survived by his three daughters: Marty McMillan (Colin), Lindsay Emery (Barclay) and Allison McMillan Harris (Eric); six grandchildren: Jeffrey, Kate, Abbie, Charlie, McKenzie and Logan; Siblings: Gary McMillan (Elaine) of Woodland, Utah, Brent McMillan (Annie) of Logan, Utah and Janeen McMillan of Midvale, Utah. He is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Blanch McMillan.

Please join us to honor our dad on Sunday, December 21st at Hidden Valley Country Club, 11820 Highland Dr. Sandy, UT 84092 from 1:00-4:00 pm with remarks at 1:30.

I am so very sorry to hear of Gregg's passing. We enjoyed many good times together as a team in special education where he helped so many students with disabilities gain needed skills. He had a common sense that helped all of us work together. May you rest in peace our friend.
