Heber Kapp Obituary

Heber B. Kapp
1926 ~ 2017
An exemplary and faithful life came to a close with the passing of our beloved Heber Blaine Kapp, who passed away May 31, 2017. His righteous influence, his service, his leadership, and his dedication will be greatly missed. He was born January 13, 1926, in Ogden, Utah to Harm and Pietkerke Kapp, the 4th of 9 children. His father passed away when Heber was 9 years old. He was raised on his grandfather's farm by his widowed mother, who died at age 46.
At age 18, Heber joined the US Navy serving in the South Pacific as a signalman during World War II. This began the deterioration of his hearing. Upon returning home he was called as a missionary for the LDS Church in the Western Canadian Mission, 1947-1949, which included the calling as district president in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He married Ardeth Greene, who he met on his mission, June 28, 1950 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. When they first met, Heber wrote in his journal, "Met Bishop Greene's daughter. She is cute and fun, but kind of young." Heber obtained a degree from Weber State College, U of U, and did graduate studies at USU in the field of education. Upon completion of his schooling he taught in California and Utah. He is remembered for his great relationship with his students and his sense of humor.
In 1972 he left the teaching profession due in part to his hearing loss and became involved with real estate, building and contracting. He will be remembered as a builder of people and a builder of buildings. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed the beauties of nature.
Heber served faithfully in the LDS Church including as a high councilor, Bishop, councilor to the State President, Stake President, Regional Representative, Mission President of the Canada Vancouver Mission, and Sealer in the Bountiful Temple. Heber and Ardeth were called to be President and Matron of the Cardston Alberta Temple where they had been married 50 years earlier. After returning home, they were called as Utah North Area Coordinators of the EFY program and Gospel Doctrine teacher in their ward.
Heber was a trusted friend, capable leader, and a totally dedicated, supportive, and loving husband in every way. Although not blessed with children, Heber and Ardeth accepted and lived the wisdom of President David O. McKay, "The noblest aim in life is to strive to make other lives happy"; they feel richly blessed by following that commitment. His favorite song from his early childhood was "I'll be a Sunbeam for Jesus, I Can If I But Try". He became a bright light throughout his life.
Heber is survived by his wife of 67 years, his brother Leroy Kapp, and his sister Berniel Voss.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 12, 2017 in the Bountiful Canyon Park Ward Chapel, 1190 East Bountiful Hills Drive, Bountiful, Utah. Friends and family may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the church and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment at the Bountiful City Cemetery. My husband, Glen L. Harker, was a missionary companion to Heber. They were both serving in the Wester Canadian Mission. He was with Heber when he met Ardith. My first date with Glen was to their wedding reception. It was a beautiful occasion for us on our "first date " and we have always remembered that special night. We have remained close friends over the years. They came to my husband"s funeral in St.George and it was so comforting for me to see them. We love and appreciate both Heber and Ardith, and feel so blessed to have them in our lives.

Love to Ardith, I will miss.

Brother Kapp was always so kind and good to me and my family. He taught school with my father at the old Bountiful Jr. high and was loved by the students. He will be missed but not forgotten.

I am so sorry to hear of your sweet husband's passing. May Heavenly Father bless you at this time.

You have been a great strength to be and will always remember the precious time we had in the Cardston Temple. I took to heart what you said at that time and was able to move pass not having children of my own.

May Heavenly Father bless you with those things that you stand in need of and may you feel Heber's eternal love for you.

Dear Ardeth,

Sadly, I welcome you to the society of those who have lost wonderful men. Your husband was a lovely person and was always so delightful to visit with at Cannon Hinckley. You two were such an exemplary couple as you served your 67 years together in the service of you Heavenly Father and mankind and each other. May God bless and comfort you as you are missing him. He will be waiting to greet you warmly when you someday return home.

Love and caring wishes,

Dear Ardie,
What a great loss to you but what comfort to know of your eternal marriage and the great blessings awaiting you. It was such a privilege to serve with you both in the Canada Vancouver Mission in 1992-1994. What great memories we have of the wonderful counsel, special examples and spiritual experiences we were able to share with you. That experience was a highlight of our lives and we treasure your friendship! May you feel the peace and comfort of the Savior at this difficult time. We love you!! Alma and Raya Jones

We are truly sad to hear of the passing of our dear Cardston Temple President who served us so well years ago. We so enjoyed serving with you both and learned so much from you. You both have been a wonderful example to us in Glenwood, Alberta Canada. Our love to you Ardith and your family.

Dear Sister Kapp,

Tom and I are serving in the Asia North Area and living in Tokyo, Japan or we would be with you at this special time.

How well I remember Brother Kapp so faithfully and kindly standing by your side as you visited our home and stake when you were Young Women General President. He supported you so well in that demanding calling and shared his wry sense of humor and love with all he met.

I am so blessed to know you and Brother Kapp and thank you for your beautiful example of service and faith. May that faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, comfort and bless you at this tender time of temporary parting.

With love, admiration and prayers,

Tom and Marilou Myers

Heber Kapp was a quiet giant of a leader. The words he spoke were always priceless and full of both wisdom and love. He also had a great sense of humor. I was blessed to be a missionary for a year with President and Sister Kapp as they began serving in BC. I've been blessed further over the years with their continued love, encouraging words, and friendship. I regularly reflect on President Kapp as I try to serve in callings. I've been blessed to love and serve with many great people over the years, and Heber would head that list.
Ardeth, our hearts embrace you from our corner of the world. We pray for the sustaining embrace that comes from the Lord to be with you at this time. Even with the testimony you have and so readily share, you must feel a tremendous loss, and for that we mourn with you. Kristalyn & I love you.
Always the builder, of both real estate and people, I'm confident that even now Heber is working on the eternal mansion that you will share. There will not be idle time while he awaits the sweet reunion now that he is not constrained by the physical self.

President Heber B. Kapp was and is a most remarkable man! He had a spiritual gift that was a unique vision of how to build the Kingdom of God in this and other parts of the world. He knew how to best bring about the blessing of God's children. He was a visionary! I had the special blessing and opportunity to observe him very closely in his leadership roles and I learned a great deal from him. He has a heart of gold and loves the Lord and the Lord's children. His eternal companion Ardeth is one of the most faithful of the choice daughters of God! May the sweet comfort of the Holy spirit be with her and the family.

Bill and Barb Michel, from Ardeth's home town of Glenwood, send our deepest love and condolences to loved ones. We had the honour of serving with them in the Cardston temple when he was Temple President and Sister Kapp was Matron. What an example of pure love and happiness they both shared with others.
