Henry Sorensen Obituary

Henry Sorensen 1918 ~ 2008 TAYLORSVILLE - Henry Sorensen, 90 passed away November 22, 2008 at his home in Taylorsville. Henry was born January 16, 1918 in Salt Lake City, the son of Christian and Dorothea Sorensen. In 1925 the family moved from Metropolis to the Salt Lake area and settled in Taylorsville where Henry became life long friends with the Butterfield and the Phillips families. This is how he met Dorothy Butterfield who became his bride of 68 years. They were married in Salt Lake City on October 25, 1940. A member of what has become known as "our greatest generation," Henry served in the Pacific during World War II as a member of the 5th Army Air Corps. Following the war, Henry began working with his father and brother Leon doing earthmoving and eventually, major road construction as Sorensen Brother's Construction. The landscape of the Salt Lake Valley, many remote parts of Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Arizona bear the image placed upon them by the Sorensen Brothers. Henry is survived by his spouse Dorothy Butterfield Sorensen - Taylorsville, son Eldon (Carol) Sorensen - Riverton, daughter Sharon Sorensen and friend Lu Ann Bergman - West Jordan, son Larry (Kathie) Sorensen - Kanab, and son Duane (Vicki) Sorensen - West Jordan. Henry has nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Viewing will be Friday evening 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Road and Saturday at the Taylorsville 3rd Ward at 1457 W. Atherton Dr., 11-11:45 a.m. Funeral Services will follow at Noon in the Chapel. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and caregivers from Envision Home Health that have been so important making Henry and family comfortable with a meaningful quality of life.

I too wanted to pay tribute to my Dad. Dad taught me the value of hard work. I remember all the fun times we had and his help in installing the fireplace insert in my Sandy home.

Father, you have had a long journey, may you rest in peace and know that I will love & remember you always.

Love you forever,

Eldon Henry Sorensen

Dad has many people that call friend. He has endured to the end and met lifes challanges and hardships head on. He is a great example to those of us who know and love him and we will miss his smile, his encouragement and his stories of work, war and life. His lifes experiences were many and varied, he loved to travel and see new things. He could fix anything and if I were to carry on one trait, it would be to have the courage to takle any job with the understanding that if it can be done, I can do it. I would love to be able to pass that along to my children and grand-children.

I love Dad and Mom! I can truly say; I was born of goodly parents.

Dear Dorothy and Sorensen Family, We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Henry. We love your family dearly and appreciate our many years of association. Specifically, how grateful we are to have known Henry. He was so talented and always used his talents to bless family and friends. When we were in the presence of Henry he always had a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. We will forever remember his genuine concern and interest in our well being and for his keen sense of humor. May the Lord bless each of you during this difficult transition with peace and his richest blessings. With love and warm regards

To a very special Uncle and Aunt who took such good care of our family in our great time of need - always there to make sure mom was taken care of and spent many hours visiting with dady while he was in the hospital - always a welcome home offering comfort and encouragement to each of us as we visited our parents when our dad was so critically ill and hurt. Our hearts are saddened by the loss of Uncle Henry but know without a doubt that he is in a better place feeling much happiness and free from pain of an ailing body. We love each of you - so thankful for the example you have been in our lives.

Henry and Dorothy were my kid's other grandparents, especially Richard. I am truly going to miss seeing him at our family parties, it wont be the same without him. I know he lives on and is watching each of his children from a better place. I am sure that he was greeted by all his loved ones who went before him. I know Brad was there to greet him as wll. I wish I could be there for the funeral but I hope you know that I am there in spirit. I love you and ALL the Sorensens hold a very dear place in my heart.

It has been a long time since I was able to sit on Uncle Henry's lap and talk to him while rubbing his head so I could feel his soft hair. I will miss him so much until we meet again.

Aunt Dorothy & Family,
I was sad to hear of Uncle Henry passing away. Every time I saw him I always had to hug him for awhile. I felt he was the closest thing to knowing my Grandpa Christian. Thanks for being part of my memories! May the Lord bring you comfort in the coming months ahead.
All my love,

Dear family,
As a child growing up in taylorsville, and my father serving with Henry in various church callings, I remember all the times that we went to your cabin in Wyoming and had a great time with all the gang. I am sorry to hear of the families loss and hope you know how much we all loved him and we and the community has lost a great friend. Thanks for the wonderful example of how to raise a family, you have an awesome one. Our hearts are with you at this time and pray that the lord will continue to bless and comfort you at this time. We love you. Perry , Dottie, Perry Dean, Kaylynn, Mechell , Brenda, Tawnya , Peacock.

My second Mom I love you so much. Henry my was like my dad and I will miss him so much, he has always been my rock. He taught me so much! Who is now going to tell me to clean my plate. He helped me so much over the years, more than he will ever know. I enjoyed cutting his hair. I am sure someone where he is , is now doing it! Probably not as well as me but OK.
