Ida Smith Obituary

1931 ~ 2015
On February 22, 2015, surrounded by her closest mortal friends, Ida Smith, 83 (born December 12, 1931), a long time resident of Orem, UT, died peacefully from complications associated with surgery. Ida was a direct descendent of Hyrum Smith, brother of Joseph Smith, Jr., founder of the LDS/Mormon religion. Ida's ancestors include many prominent members and leaders of the LDS/Mormon Church. Two of her closest friends were U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch and former Senator Bob Bennett. Ida was preceded in death by her loving parents, Joseph F. Smith and Ruth Pingree Smith and her beloved sister Lynne Partridge and survived by her brothers, Hyrum W., Raoul "Joe", Denis, and her sisters, Ruth S. Silver and Pauline S. Jensen. Ida's most trusted friends in life were Myrna, her neighbor of many years and Christopher M. Nemelka, both who were among those who enjoyed Ida's last moments of this "Lone and Dreary World."
It was Ida's wish to let the world know, that after a lifelong search for happiness and real truth, she found solace and fulfillment in the Marvelous Work and a Wonder®. Ida wanted all of her friends and family members to know about this marvelous find. Ida desired that anyone interested in her life read Joseph Smith's Inspired Translation of the biblical book of Isaiah, chapter 29, in regards to the sealed portion of the Book of Mormon. Some of Ida Smith's last words were, "It's a marvelous work and a wonder!" To celebrate Ida's life there will be a memorial service held at the Garden Park Condominium Clubhouse, 224 W. Garden Park, Orem, UT, Saturday, February 28, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Dear Ida, thanks for your awe inspiring YouTube videos of your discoveries and experiences with MWAW. You are such a treasure. As children of our Heavenly Father, I am humbled to have known you. Luv you.

I was a friend of Ida's when she worked in Palo Alto, CA back in the '60's. We were in the same Stake. What a great example she was to the Young Women she rubbed shoulders with. And then I visited her when she served at BYU. I am sorry I did not continue writing at Christmases because I enjoyed hearing about her trips with her sisters. Ida was a wonderful woman and I looked up to her a lot. Much love to her family at this difficult time.

Dearest Beloved Ida,

When your church, family and friends rejected you because of your courage to stand for the truth you so earnestly sought your entire life, it opened up a slot for me to become your sister and friend and I am all the richer for it. I so cherish the many walks and conversations we shared.

I've never met nor admired a more exemplary lady in my entire life.

With much love, Julie XOXOXO

What an incredible woman! I never had the chance to meet Ida in this life, but she left a mark and her story greatly inspired me during my quest for real truth. Thank you Ida Smith, for being true to You!

Surely, when The Lord "maketh up his jewels"
the whole of dear Ida's life, the intent of her heart and her earnest striving will serve her well. His Ways/Thoughts are not ours and we can trust in Him... leaning not unto our own understanding ("wonder") of why/how even the Elect choose to exercise their agency. Remembering that: Not
all who wander are lost.

Though we have never met in person, I feel a profound reverence toward Ida. As we are worlds apart I feel the closeness that brought us together through The Marvelous Work and a Wonder.

When we were at lunch in January, I felt moved to say to Ida what she had meant in my life. I said to myself that I had told her before, but happily, I ignored myself and told her again.
As a young woman in Carlson Hall, she was the strongest of us. I am not sure if there are any remaining from that time, but I was so fortunate to know her strength then and to find her once more in California and to find her again after many years and be friends in old age. I am so grateful for that friendship.

I worked with Ida when I served on the SAA board as the College of Nursing President for 2 years. She was a dear friend and mentor to me. She always was supportive of my endeavors. Her enthusiasm was contagious and she truly loved her role at BYU. She will be greatly missed. I am one of her children and am proud to have called Ida my dear friend.

My life changed forever when I found the MWAW. I had no one to talk to and called Ida. She kindly and lovingly helped me learn a whole new language, "as a little child". I am so greatful for the two and a half hours I was able to spend in her wonderful home learning eternal truths. What an incredibly wise, intelligent, spiritual woman! I have always wanted to know the Christ. I think I came very close in knowing and being loved by Ida. Thank you, Ida, for living his gospel and being such a great example!!

I am deeply saddened by Ida's passing. We were classmates at Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii, class of 1949. We were both at our 65th Reunion in Honolulu last June. We kept in touch.
I loved Ida, her dear parents(her Mom Ruth, taught my wife Janet at Hanahauoli)and each of her siblings. I will definitely be at her Memorial service this Saturday.
My love and Aloha Nui Loa to each of her family.

My dear Aunt Ida,
I am so grateful we had the chance to spend time together two years ago this summer. It warmed my heart and made me emotional to see you again. I hope you know how truly loved you are. I have so many wonderful memories of you. I look forward to the happy reunion not only with my mother but with you as well. Consider yourself hugged. Much love, Alice

Dear Ida, you, yourself, were a marvelous work and wonder to me. I thank God for our brief time. I can call you Sister Smith of a Truth, and a friend. I miss you so very much. I tried to call you every day since Suday, our day to talk, but the service said the number was not available. It's happened before and you told me it had been technical;. After three days trying I Googled you and found you had gone Home. If there's anyway to help us understand, from where you are, please do not hesitate to let me know. Thank you for what you've given us already. You wll truly be missed. "he that hath an ear to hear, let him hear what the Spirit sayeth unto the churches."
In the name of Jesus Christ!

Amen.

Love,
Duane

When Gail and Hyrum invited her to Ventura to talk to the sister missionaries, they graciously invited me to hear her speak. Her lesson on being congruent in our lives, has influenced the rest of my life. I wish she lived in Ventura so I could have learned more from her.

Dear Ida,
The first time we met you had a broken leg. Now because of a broken leg we say good bye for a short time. I'm honored you asked me to help get you to the hospital even though you insisted on driving there yourself despite the pain you were in.

I will always remember you for your indomitable spirit and the independence by which you lived your life. Always on your own terms, not wishing to trouble anyone. Thank you dear friend and neighbor until we meet again, enjoy the peace.

I asked Ida Smith, "When others will ask me in the future what was the greatest advice you gave me? What should I tell them?" She looked thoughtfully into my eyes and she took my hand, "Tell then I was not afraid of the Truth. Tell them I had no fear of truth."
