Jacob Besendorfer Obituary

Jacob Henry Besendorfer 2007 ~ 2009 Jacob Henry Besendorfer was born September 2, 2007 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Moroni and Michelle Besendorfer. He arrived in this world at 27 weeks gestation weighing 1 pound 6 ounces; he had such a big spirit in a very small body. After spending the first four and a half months of his life in the NICUs at three different hospitals, and two surgeries later, Jacob was finally able to come home. During his life Jacob alternated his time between being home with his parents and Primary Children's Medical Center, his home away from home. Despite an incredible medical team that tirelessly worked on his behalf, Jacob continued to have struggles that required more surgeries and procedures. On April 5, 2009 after 19 months of learning, loving, growing, and continued illnesses Jacob returned to our Heavenly Father. He finally knows what it is like to have a body that matches his strong, feisty soul. He is survived by his parents. There will be a viewing Friday night, April 10th at Larkin Mortuary 260 E. South Temple from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral will be held Saturday, April 11th at the LDS church building located at 3805 S. Main St. in South Salt Lake City at 10:00 a.m. Jacob will be buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Salt Lake City. Online condolences at www.larkinmortuary.com Jacob was a wonderful boy that always smiled and laughed regardless of how he felt. He was born determined to enjoy the world around him. Jacob loved the breeze on his face or a snowflake on his nose; both brought instant giggles. Everyone was Jacob's friend, he embraced all he met. Even the doctors and nurses received a grin. The world lost some of its magic when Jacob died; he was dearly loved and will be missed.

Dear Michelle and Moroni: We met you last Christmas when my daughter, my mom and I dropped off some baby supplies for Jacob. My mom, Sister Johnson, was a missionary in your ward. It was clear, just from the brief time we spent with you, the amazing love you had for Jacob, and what a unique and brave soul he must have been. My daughter has kept Jacob's photo in her room ever since. Our hearts and prayers go out to you during this time.

With love,

Dear Michelle & Moroni,

I borrowed these words of Sullivan Ballou, who was a Civil War soldier. He wrote this letter to his wife soon before he died. I believe it is what Little Jacob would say to you, his most loving and devoted parents.

"Never forget how much I love you, and when my last breath escapes me, it will whisper your name...But O! If the dead can come back to this Earth and flit unseen around those they loved, I shall always be near you; in the gladdest days & in the darkest nights...always, always, & if there be a soft breeze on your cheek, (or a snowflake on your nose) it shall be my breath, as the cool air fans your throbbing temple, it shall be my spirit passing by. Do not mourn me dead; think I am gone and wait for thee, for we shall meet again...

From one NICU family to another! God Bless you and give you peace!

Michelle and Moroni, I am so honored that I was able to get to know Jacob and Of course the two of you. He was a great little boy, and he did have a wonderful little spirit despite all he had to go throug in this life, which was more than any little child should have to go through. I know that you both were such a strength to Jacob and that his life was a very good one because of the love you both have for him. I will truly miss that little guy. He made footprints on our hearts, and his smile will always be remembered. I pray that you and your family will remember the good times and feel the love he had for you. May God bless you and keep you strong. Love, Cindy Hunt

My heart goes out to you and your family. I am the grandmother of a beautiful lil girl born at 25 weeks weighing in at 1 pound 9 1/4 ounces and 12 inches long. She too spent 5 months in the hospital, had severe head bleeds, and such. She is now out, and learning all the things babies do. She is now 17 1/2 month's old.
Know your sweet angel is flying free and able to have fun.
Again, my heart goes out to you and your family.
