James Crane Obituary

James Maurice Crane

1/19/1942 ~ 10/30/2025

James Maurice Crane (Jim), beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on October 30, 2025, at the age of 83.

Jim graduated from Jordan High School in 1960, where he set records in high jump and hurdles, and later served in the United States Air Force. He earned his degree from Salt Lake Community College in 1972 and retired after 36 years with L3 Communications as Program Manager for the Global Hawk Aircraft Program.

An avid outdoorsman, Jim loved boating, fishing, camping, and four-wheeling in his Jeep, the "DRTDVL." He was a dedicated youth coach, leading Ute Conference football teams to two state championships and coaching baseball and basketball for many years.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rasmus and Fanny Dorthea Peterson Rasmussen, and James Wilford and Mary Bills Crane; his parents, James Ray and Frances Emma Crane Rasmussen; his son, James Michael Crane; his daughter, Sandra Lee Crane Bustos; and his first wife, Martha Jean Davenport Crane.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Diana Maizland Crane; stepdaughters Penny Cavender, Nicole (Dennis) Garduno, and Lesley (Curt) Mascaro; grandchildren McKenzie, Mykelle, Cordero, Courtney, Wendy, Christen, Kacie, Keri, Chase, Dani, Kaden, and Talon; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Goff Mortuary, 8090 State Street, Midvale, Utah. A viewing will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Draper Cemetery at 12:00 p.m.

Jim will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and love of family, sports, and the outdoors.

Jim was a good guy. I worked for him first at L3 and he always treated us with respect and allowed us to grow in capability.

He loved his family a lot, too.

And he loved a good joke or prank,

No doubt, he will be missed.
