Jeremy Thomas Obituary

4/7/1977 ~ 11/2/2011
Jeremy was born to Wendy Tomlinson Thomas and Craig Michael Thomas in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Jeremy loved the Universe.
We think his death was accidental because he was sober and had a positive attitude the past few months.
At the age of two, Jeremy had the vocabulary of an adult. He absorbed knowledge like a sponge. For all his gifts of intelligence he was also plagued by depression from an early age, which complicated his entire life.
Jeremy wasn't ever easy but he was worth the time to get to know him. He loved science, especially physics and math. He had the ability to quickly understand complex scientific and mathematical concepts. Carl Sagan was his idol. Jeremy read all his books over and over again.
When Jeremy wasn't challenged, he lost interest, which was the case for most of his early school years. However, several years after high school he got back on track and started studies in elemental mathematics at Salt Lake Community College, graduating with an Associate of Science degree. Jeremy then attended the University of Utah completing nearly every math class available and pursuing the final semester of a degree in physics.
The world of science truly missed a shining star in Jeremy. His ability to break down complex theory and concepts to make science understandable was Jeremy's passion, but this passion, at times, had to take a back seat to his demons, anxiety and depression.
Jeremy loved his brother Alex and sister in-law Jen, Wales, the home of his ancestors his late Aunt Diane and his "oldest friend" Ilauna. He also loved his guitars, martial arts, Asian philosophy and comic books.
Jen and Alex will miss reciting movie lines, beginning with a few words through whole scripts, with their brother Jeremy. His ability to remember every single thing about his favorite comic book characters or movie lines was amazing. Jeremy never killed a spider - or anything - he would let it be or move it outside because it was part of the universe.
We are sure that Jeremy would like to thank Joe Boberg with Recovery Bridge for his help this past year.
Jeremy is survived by his heartbroken parents, his beloved brother and sister-in-law, his grandparents Hal and Margaret Tomlinson, and for their unconditional love; his special Aunt and Uncle Chris and Jeff Stein and their children, cousin Stephanie and her husband Tom, and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
We will celebrate Jeremy's special life in the near future and we will contact family and friends to join us at that time.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the University of Utah Physics and Astronomy department. Jeremy often mentioned that they need financial support. umarket2.utah.edu/ugive.

Jeremy and I enjoyed being arch enemies. my best friend is Lisa, his girlfriend for awhile. I also married dylan, one of Jeremy's good friends. We had a certain respect?distain for each other. When we'd meet we'd look right into eachothers eye's "rebecca" he'd say. "jeremy" I'd reply, and that was funny. when he met mine and dylan's baby for the 1st time at 3 days old. He looked for a minute and asked "Well, what does she do Dyl? No tricks?" ha ha ha. Jeremy had such a unique personality that I think the entire world is missing now. We all talk about him still ang will never forget. Love/Hate - Rebecca Maw

In celebration of the Jeremy I knew and loved. So many memories, so little time. My favorite Jeremy memory is the time I was babysitting him when he was around six months old. After putting Jeremy to bed for the night, I heard someone say "Heh, heh" I went to Jeremy's room to check in on him. When I opened the door there was Jeremy standing up in his crib with the biggest smile on his face. He said "heh, heh". I said "What are doing awake and how in the world are you talking, you are too young to be speaking". That cracked me up. Absolutely adorable. Very typical Jeremy.

He will always be in my heart!

Dear Wendy and Craig,
I cannot tell you how this news has broken my heart. You may know I`ve been through 10 years with Jake fighting those same demons. Why is it the truly magic ones are so fragile? Please know how deeply saddened I am. I hope you are able to find some peace and your memory of him never dims. I know you must feel you were dealt a bad hand but know, too, you were given the light that only Jeremy could shine.
All my best and love, John Dallimore

Where is Jeremy?
My little friend that I used to read bedtime stories too.
The one I used to protect from the rest of the world.
So full of wit, so full of question and so full of wonder.
Why was the road so rough and bumpy when seen through the eyes of you?
Many interests, many talents complicated by the presures of a complex society.
Finding your way was a difficult task, even with the love of your parents and your older brother.
Tonight I cry myself to sleep, thinking about how to say goodbye, wondering what happened along the way.
I love you Jerms.

Do know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers as you grieve.
Though you know he is no longer in pain, I am also sure that you will miss his physical presence for some time.

Hey Jerem,

I was so happy to have you back in my life recently. It felt so good to be with you. Hanging out with you felt like we were kids again. I miss those days of rollerblading around the U, watching movies, and karate on the tramp.

I regret that we won't get to be with you any longer in this life but I look forward to seeing you again. We have unfinished business and many more adventures together my friend.

I love you cous. Laters!

Jeremy was one of my oldest friends. Though time made separate our chosen paths, I always considered the time I spent with him very Special. I shall always remember those special memories.

Jeremy was an original. He lit up a room like a bright shinning star. Babysitting Jeremy & Alex was always an adventure. Mr. Roger's neighborhood, the hunchback of Notre Dame tag, lasers, etc. My dear sweet Jeremy I miss your smile and the sound of your laughter. Rest in peace.
See you in the next life. Love you.
