Austin, TX-Our world sadly lost a force on May 31, 2023, when Jessica Elizabeth Green, known lovingly as Jess, died from a rare, aggressive cancer in Austin, TX. She is survived by her husband, Eric Meeker, their daughter, Willa Rea Meeker, her parents, Deborah Green (stepdad Clayton Aynesworth) and Tom Green (stepmom Laura Green), her brothers Zach Green (partner Sarah Waldorf) and Max Green, and an expansive convergence of friends and family who love her endlessly.

Jessica was born on April 11, 1986, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She grew up in Austin and graduated from St. Stephens Episcopal School and Bennington College. She directed The Cabbage School, a "rigorous, skills-based, fool school" in North Carolina. She was a weaver of cloth and worlds, a farmer and a shepherdess, a performer and an artist, an educator who championed failure, and a beautiful revolutionary force. She worked hard to understand and love herself and made those around her feel loved the way they needed, how she knew we all deserve to feel loved. She engaged us in long-term collaborations, helped us delve deep, place our reservations at bay, and share the risk of meaningful lived experiences. Jess wove us together with the world around us, the gatherings, and the convergences of us all. She helped us find our capacity for beauty.

Fortunately, Jessica has left us with her wisdom and spirit through the cloth she's woven, through the deep connections she's cultivated, and through her own words on her website, alittleweather.com:

"Real life takes time. Consider slowing down. Pay attention. Notice. Fight to be present. The onus is on each of us to bring the new and the special into the moment, to manifest the magic in this mundane life."

On the morning of her death, Jessica told her daughter and family that they could always find her in the flowers. If you are searching, we invite you to meet her there, too.

Her life will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, June 9, at The Contemporary Austin-Laguna Gloria (3809 West 35th Street, 78703). Friends, family, and anyone whose lives Jessica touched are welcome to attend.
