Joan Racine Obituary

Joan N. Racine "Eternal Sweethearts"  Joan Nicholson Racine, passed away June 1, 2003 due to complications following surgery.  She was born to Rutheda Nicholson and the late Dean Nicholson on June 2, 1942.  She married her beloved husband, David Racine, November 20, 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, willingly holding many positions and callings. Joan was currently employed with the State of Utah Department of Corrections. She worked there for 14 years, enjoying her job and the people she associated with. She was artistic and creative, making quilts for each member of her family. She was either crocheting or knitting in every spare moment. Her beautiful designs and crafts decorate many homes.  Joan always looked forward to the Lake Powell trips where anyone on the boat was treated as a special guest and member of her family; especially her children's friends. She loved all living things, birds, lizards, and dogs were just a few of the creatures she adopted as her pets. Joan deeply cared for everyone but gave her children unconditional love. She leaves them with a beautiful legacy of courage, faith, and love. These things she also shared with her husband who loved her deeply. She now goes on to serve others on a different mission of loving care. She is survived by her adored husband David, 10 children, Craig Whiting (Elaine), Toby Racine (Michelle), Scott Racine (Cheri), Aimee Nilson (Mark), Ryan Racine, Jennifer Racine, Wendy Racine, Whitney Murray (Derrick), Chelsea Racine, and Brooke Racine. She is also survived by her mother, Rutheda Nicholson, her sister Linda Fenton, a special niece and nephew, Megan and Jeremy Fenton, and 20 ½  grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Linda Bell, Karen Rees, a brother Val Johnston, and uncles Ronald and Bert Johnston. Services will be held at Little Cottonwood 12th Ward, 6180 Glenoaks Street, Murray, Utah at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2003. Friends may call 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. June 5, 2003 at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary and one hour prior to services on Friday. Interment Murray City Cemetery.

Racine Family,

Although I only new Joan for a short time, I will miss her sweet smile every Sunday and her willingness to serve me and my family every chance she had. Thank you for being a good example to me.

I loved Joanie

She was so sweet and kind

What a joy to see her

She was laughing all the time

When I first met her

Oh so many years ago

She had me laughing so hard

Right down to my toes

I'm going to miss her smiling

Her happiness and her cheerful ways

We have all lost

Someone dear---today.

Dear Racine Family - I was so sad to hear the news of Joan. I have a lot of happy memories of her through my growing up years. She always had a smile on her face and I can still remember her laugh. You are all in my prayers.

Dear David and family,

We are so saddened to hear of your news. I called Mother and Dad (Uncle Winston) to read them the obituary - they both expressed their sorrow. Joan was a beautiful daugher of God and we know you and your children will miss her greatly. May the Lord bless you at this time, and may you know that you have family and extended family who love you. Your cousin, Loreen Jensen Poff

Betty and I knew Joanie well, and we both love her. I called her "sis," because we became close enough at work that she seemed like a sister to me. I know you and your family will miss her - we will too.

It's hard to believe she's really gone, a great mom and most of all a great friend. I'll alway remember her as this great neighbor who lived accross the street from me for years. Always making Michelle and CJ welcome and treating them like her own, Joan I love you and I'm going to miss you.

Love Jeanie
