Joe Lambert Obituary

Jonathan "Joe" Stewart Lambert

1954 ~ 2022

Jonathan Stewart Lambert, "Joe," passed away at home on Sunday, January 30th, surrounded by love.

First and foremost, Joe was a father. Not only to his two children, but to anyone who needed him to be. Throughout his battle with pancreatic cancer he maintained his joyful spirit and positive outlook. Although the word "battle" assumes there is a winner and a loser; we can all agree to call this one a draw, as the cancer and pain passed with him.

Along with fatherhood, Joe's great love in life was his wife, Lori. Nearly thirty-eight years of marriage is a feat by any standard and is a testament to the kindness, patience, compassion, and tenderness he showed her every day. They traveled the world together, remodeled far too many homes, raised two amazing, really, really ridiculously good-looking children, and built the life they always wanted.

Born in Hanover, New Hampshire, raised in Sacramento, California, and settled in Salt Lake City, Utah, Joe left his indelible mark wherever he lived. He earned a degree in Zoology from the University of California, Davis, and was a lifelong student, always open to learning something new.

Joe is most widely known for his long and successful career in the restaurant business. He "retired" in 2014, after nearly two decades as a partner at Salt Lake Brewing Company. Never one to rest on his laurels, retirement meant starting his own consulting group, Gastronomics, Inc. with dear friends from his many years in the industry. He worked hard, doing what he loved until the very end.

He found joy in life through fly-fishing, "being entertained," singing the wrong lyrics to his favorite songs, camping, travel, scuba diving, rugby, U of U football, dinner parties, skiing, bourbon, martinis, and making and sharing his world famous holiday "Nog." Joe was the consummate host, and treasured the company of dear friends, who will never forget his all-enveloping hugs.

He is preceded in death by his father Dr. Lewis Lambert, mother Dorothy, and brother Kenneth. He is survived by his wife Lori, daughter Alison (Dom), son Braden (Erin), brother Chip, sister Bonnie, faithful pup Waylon Jennings, and a large, loving, extended family. A celebration of life will be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Arrangements are entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor. Please share your memories and photos with his family and view updated service information at www.starksfuneral.com.

"Poets talk about 'spots of time,' but it is really fishermen who experience eternity compressed into a moment. No one can tell what a spot of time is until suddenly the whole world is a fish and the fish is gone." – Norman Maclean

I received the prompt for one year that Joe passed this morning. We think of him and Lori all the time. Oh, how he is missed! The early SLC days. Hobie sailing, the trip to San Felipe, the wedding, moving into our house, the kids, Breezy! Such a genuinely unique and lovable human being. Thanks, Joe, and gratitude, Lori!

Lori, Ali, and Braden -we miss Uncle Joe so much, but not a fraction of how you feel. There is a void in our lives. But there are so many wonderful memories also. All our love to you.

Incredible guy, such great memories! I will miss talking crazy restaurant tales and U of U football with my amigo. Bourbon toast to a one of a kind all around great dude who never liked a menu that had too much "foam" on it, best advice he ever gave us!

Above the doors of Shenanigans Restaurant hung a plaque that read something like "May you get to heaven a half hour before before the devil knows you died." I´m completely sure that Joe had a much longer grace period. Hearing of his passing is heartbreaking. I worked for Joe all the way through college. He was a mentor, a friend, the funniest guy ever, a brilliant business man and an aspirational figure to me. Before seeing him recently, after he and Lori moved into our neighborhood, the memories flooded back and I´m thankful that, as an adult, I was able to tell Joe in person, the profound affect he had on my life. He is truly one of my most favorite people to have ever been in my life. Well done, Joe! You did it right, and you gave us a blueprint to follow. Dang. This makes me so sad.
