John Boyle Obituary

John Boyle

(Father Pat)

1928 ~ 2022

Salt Lake City, Utah—John Boyle (Father Pat), 94, passed away about 4:00 a.m., Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Assisted Living section of St. Joseph Villa, Salt Lake City, UT. After the Monastery in Huntsville closed in 2017, Father Pat lived at the Senior Apartments before his health problems required greater care.

Father Pat was born in St. Louis on April 8, 1928, to Ed and Mary Delahunty Boyle, both from Ireland. Father Pat felt a call to the priesthood at age eleven. He completed a philosophy degree at Kendrick Seminary College, and in 1950 he entered the Monastery in Huntsville.

Father Pat distinguished himself as community sacristan, preparing for our community worship services, which were the better part of the monastic-day. Even into middle age he was sometimes assigned to the summer farm work, and though slightly built, he handled hay bales with the best of us.

In 1967 he was ordained a priest and over the years became an extraordinarily popular counselor and confessor. For his gifts to us of his counseling and support, our best return is prayer for Father Pat's eternal happiness.

The funeral Mass will be Thursday, August 18, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. in the St. Joseph Villa Chapel, 451 Bishop Federal Lane, Salt Lake City, UT. Interment will be at the Monastery cemetery in Huntsville, UT,

Services entrusted to Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, UT.

Father Pat, being in your presence made my soul sing. It was because at all times you were with God. You brought so much to my life and the life of my son´s. You will remain in our hearts which will be restless until we like you rest in the Lord. You had your bags packed for a long time , I know you were ready to meet the Love that inspired you to love us all. We miss you so much. Deirdre, Johnathon and Peter

My dear Father Pat, I struggle now to find words that tell you how very much I enjoyed our friendship. In the years of knowing you, sharing confessions, chats, and walks in the park, I always left feeling on top of the world. How grateful I am for your friendship, and how I love that I have a friend just a prayer away...Rest in peace, dear Father, and know that my thoughts will always be here to share with you once again in prayer.

My sweet loving friend. My heart is broke that you were taken from us. You were my spiritual guidance through so many things and that I will never forget. You will never be forgotten and always remembered in my heart and soul for all eternity. May the grace of my Lord guide you, protect you and love you unconditionally as you did us. You gave me so much joy in my heart and helped me understand Gods true messages. I am so very thankful that you are and will continue to be pet of my life, now and forever. May you Rest In Peace my dearest friend.

Fr. Patrick entered my life on June 12, 1997, the same day as my first trip to the Monastery. I had spent a few hours in the chapel that day and was preparing to leave when I noticed a small monks head peek around the corner and we caught each other's eye. For the next 26 yrs, he always reminded me of God's plan for us to meet. I furthered my education becoming a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and one day while meeting in the little confessional in the back of the Church, I told him that what each of us did professionally was very much alike. He asked me how I knew this and I replied......Because of the number of Kleenex boxes!
I loved this very special and loving man, with all my heart. I'm sure he is happy where he is now. God broke the mold with him.

Thank you Father Pat for coming into my life 3 years ago...You have been an inspiration to me and has been a great influence in my conversion to Catholicism from Lutheranism.
It is late in life for me, however I knew that by meeting you and seeing and feeling your blessedness that I needed my Lord Jesus to be a greater and stronger force in my life.
You are a Saint in my eyes, and touched my soul more than you ever realized.
You are home now Father and May you now Rest In Peace!

I met Fr Pat through Donna Masek...each year I would come to Huntsville after working on a weekend retreat for women in Ogden, to rest. My visit always included an encounter with Fr. Pat and him leaving me a pearl of wisdom. I'm not sure if the sonic boom heard in UT was a meteor or a saint leaving this earth for his eternal reward. You've made it home. Continue to help us.

We met Father Pat a few months before the Huntsville Monastery closed. He talked with us for about an hour, and answered all our questions. He was a wise, warm, and gentle person. I am so glad we stopped and met him.

He was a voice of Truth in a world of confusion. When he gave me absolution he always ended with - "I pray one day you hear the words - `Well done, my good and faithful servant´". No doubt he has heard these words and he is beholding what `eye has not seen´. I thank God for the life of this beautiful, single hearted man. Fr Mary Pat, pray for us!
