John Anthony Feotis
June 3, 1930 ~ April 25, 2022
John Anthony Feotis, 91, husband, father, "Papou," passed away on April 25, 2022. John was born on June 3, 1930 in Akron, Ohio to Anthony and Helen (Kalamarides) Feotis, who are deceased. While a student at Kent State University he was drafted into the army and served in the Korean War for a year. After being honorably discharged, John returned to Kent State University and earned his bachelor's degree. He worked for American Airlines and the Firestone International Company in Akron for many years. John met Mary Stathakis and they were married at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Detroit, Michigan on January 20, 1968, and had two sons, Anthony and William. They lived in Akron until moving to Salt Lake City in 1974. John worked in the travel business until his retirement and then worked as a substitute teacher. John was an active member of the St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church and especially enjoyed meeting with the "Forever Young" friends at St. Anna's every month. He was especially proud of his Cretan heritage and helped form the Pancretan Youth in 1949, was the co-chairman of the first Pancretan Youth Convention in Akron in July of 1949, and remained active in the Pancretan Association for many years. John was an avid baseball fan became the New York Yankees' biggest supporter and instilled his love of the game in his sons and grandchildren. His love of football was only for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
His greatest joy was becoming a Papou to his three grandchildren, Maria, Eleni, and his namesake, John. He loved watching them grow and perform in the Greek and Cretan dance groups and listening to them laugh while playing.
Survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Feotis, sons Anthony (Arge) Feotis and William (Wendy) Feotis, grandchildren Maria, Eleni, and John Feotis, sister Kornelia Maragakis, simbethero Kostas Pavlos all of Salt Lake City, simbethero Wayne Burkhart of Davenport, North Dakota, sister-in-law's Effie Iwankowski and Irene Karash of Detroit, Michigan and many nieces and nephews across the country. The family has a special thank you to Dr. Volden at the Veterans Hospital and a very special thank you to Rosie and Reggie from Harmony House who cared for John and ensured his comfort during his last days.
Funeral services will be held on May 2, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church located at 9201 South 1300 East, Sandy. A viewing will be held on May 1, 2022 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. with a Trisagion service starting at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church, Sandy.
