John Holton Obituary

1938 ~ 2017
John Grant Holton passed away peacefully Thursday, October 12, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was the 5th child and only son of Grant John Holton and Ella Louise Peterson Holton. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 9, 1938. He had 4 older sisters, Bethea (Beth), Barbara, Beverly, and Renee who adored him. His early childhood was spent in Salt Lake City attending Jefferson Elementary, Lincoln Jr High and South High School. He later graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. John served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Denmark. After his mission, he married Karen Andersen, who had immigrated from Denmark to the United States. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on January 12, 1962. They have 2 sons, Allen (Kendra) Holton and Michael (Roxane) Holton. They have 7 grandchildren, Nicholas (Sarah), Tyler John (deceased), Melissa (Blake), Lindsey, currently serving a mission in Puerto Rico - Redlands, California, Jonathan, Pernille and Harald. John is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Beth and Barbara and his Grandson, Tyler John. John had a successful career in business working for Levi Strauss, Beehive Clothing Mills, Lynn Wilson Products and other businesses. John loved music and sang with a barbershop group and various quartets'. He loved golf even until his last weeks but there was nothing he loved more than being with and supporting his grandchildren. John was a High Priest and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints, serving in many callings throughout his life. He especially had a passion for indexing. His outgoing personality and keen sense of humor was endearing to all. He could make anyone feel welcome and at ease. He was a kind and generous man always willing to help out anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

I had a huge crush on John when we were at Lincoln Jr. High. Great guy! Saw him at a South High Reunion in August 2011.

John and I were friends at Lincoln Jr. High, South High, and the U. We played on the same baseball team. He played shortstop and I pitched. We remained friends through emails and Face Book. I always admired John for his fun personality and dedication to the LDS church. He was truly outstanding. R.I.P. my good friend.

Dear Karen, Allen and Michael,
Claudia and I are so sorry to learn of John's passing. We were unable to attend his viewing and funeral. Heard that it was a very nice service honoring John.
We have fond memories as neighbors and friends. John always seemed to be so positive and happy! Will miss his friendly smile and personality!
