LaMar Clark Obituary

Lamar F. Clark 1933 ~ 2006 On November 5th, 2006, our beloved father, husband, and grandfather, LaMar F. Clark returned to his Heavenly Father at the age of 72. LaMar was born to Nora Davis and Ernest Thomas Clark on December 1st, 1933, in Cedar City, Utah. As a youth LaMar excelled in sports. At Cedar City High School, he was an All-State Basketball guard, an American Junior League Baseball player, and in 1951 he won All-State recognition as a football player. LaMar received many athletic scholarship offers, and chose to attend The College of Southern Utah where he played as an All-American Football Player in the position of Fullback. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. LaMar began a distinguished boxing career in 1957 for which he acquired two world records: 44 consecutive knockouts, and six knockouts in one night. His final bout was in 1961 with Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali). He married the love of his life, Brenda Huntsman on July 30th, 1960, in New Harmony, Utah. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Saint George Temple on March 23, 1963. LaMar and Brenda have lived in West Jordan for the last 46 years where they raised their three daughters. LaMar retired from Kennecott Copper in 1984. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, LaMar served in many callings including Young Men's leader, Sunday School president, stake missionary, and most importantly, valued Home Teacher. He is survived by his wife Brenda Huntsman, daughters Nicole Clark-Romano, Cherese Jones, and Theresa Clark, his sons-in-law Tony Romano and Brent Jones, and grandson Dillen LaMar Clark, his "little pal", and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Nora and Ernest, his sister Colleen, and his brothers Boyd and Tom. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 10, 2006, 11:00 a.m. at the River Oaks 1st Ward, 8825 South 1095 West. Friends and family may call Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 So.) and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Brenda, I can't believe it. I saw you on Saturday, November 4th and we visited (as we do when I come to Sears and am fortunate enough to see you). And then, I learn about LaMar after the fact. I'm sorry and was stunned to hear the news. I don't like not being in the same ward as I sometimes don't get news until after the fact, plus I'm never one to read (I don't even take) a newspaper. Anyways, I know his health hasn't been the best, but nonetheless, I want you to know how sorry I am and feel privileged to have known LarMar. I didn't realize what an athete he was. I work up here at the University of Utah Football Dept., and have such a respect for these young athletes. I love sports and obviously LaMar did too. You might have or just put up with it. Anyways, Brenda, I'm sorry and if there's anything I can do for you, please let me know....

To Brenda and family, I am sorry for your loss, but know Lamar is in a better place. Brenda and Lamar made me and my young family feel very welcome in West Jordan many years ago. Lamar was out of my life for many years, but reappeared after a personal tradgedy. He called my every week for a few months and we had many great conversations. I am honored that he was an important part of my life. God Bless the Clark family. Brent Wightman

Please accept our deepest sympathies. LaMar was a great influence on most all of Southern Utah's youth. He was many young athletes hero during the 60's. He showed us that a small town boy could compete with anyone. He will always be on my list a one of the greatest. He had the spirit of a champion. Know that his legacy will live on through those that he had such and influence on. May God bless you

Dear Brenda and Family
We share in your loss of LaMar. What an athlete he was for our Cedar City High School. Since our names started with "C" I was either seated in front of or behind LaMar in our early school years. He was a very good person and also some-what of a tease. (But I'm sure you know that.) I would show his name and accomplishments in the "Guinness World Book of Records" to our children which was very impressive to them. May God Be With you and help you through this time of sorrow.

Brenda, Nicole, Cherese, Theresa: I almost said you'll never know, but you do know what a special friend LaMar is to our family, and what a great guy he was with Charlotte's dad all those years ago. I am so very glad I got to spend a little time with him recently; I just wish I'd done that more often. We'll miss him, not like you'll miss him, for sure, but miss him we will. We'll see you all soon. Here's a great big hug from our whole family... Mike and Charlotte, Jason, Adrienne, Megan and Kevin.
