Industrious & Hard Working ST. GEORGE, Utah – Leo Bons, 76, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002 at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. He was born December 5, 1925, in the Netherlands, to Anthone and Maartje Verzyl Bons. He married Marilyn Pollard on Sept. 26, 1974. Leo was raised in the Netherlands until 1947, during which time he served in the Dutch Royal Netherlands Army, World War II, as a member of the underground resistance. After spending four years in the Army, he moved to Jakarta, Indonesia where he lived for 18 years, and was employed as a purchasing manager. He came to the United States November, 1961 where he was employed by Arnold Machinery Company as a purchasing manager for 20 plus years. Being industrious and hardworking (words he always lived by), he established his own business, "Leo's Maintenance Service." His hobby was in the garden where he grew tulips and was the envy of all with the growth of his vegetables and fruit trees. Family was important and his #1 priority. He always kept in contact with his extended family via phone calls and letters. Leo's life was filled with many interesting stories and experiences. You could say that he lived three unique lives in one lifetime. He was always one to give love and friendship to everyone with whom he came in contact. Surviving family include: his wife, Marilyn of St. George, UT; children, Dan (Linda) Kretschmann of St. George, UT, Steve (Le Ann) Kretschmann of Colorado Springs, CO, Jeni (Dave) Yates of South Jordan, UT; and eight grandchildren. He was also survived by his family in the Netherlands: sisters, Nel Van Leeuwen and Wil (Bert) G'T Jong; brother, Audre' Bons; niece, Thea (Sjaak) Snel; nephews, Ton (Germa) Bons and Martin Bons. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 23, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. at the Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church with Pastor Darrel Hinshaw officiating. Friends and family may call Saturday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., prior to services at the Church. Interment will be in the Tonaquint Cemetery under the direction of Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary, (435) 673-2454. Friends and family are invited to offer their condolences at www.spilsburybeard.com.
