Linda Huntington Obituary

Linda Rae Huntington

1943-2022

Salt Lake City, Utah-Linda Rae Huntington, of Salt Lake City, Utah, died on September 24, 2022, after suffering from a serious accident on April 14, 2022.

Despite her painful last months, Linda lived a full life of integrity and hard work. She was an intelligent and thoughtful woman who loved nature and simple pleasures.

Linda loved growing up in Utah at a time where neighbors knew everyone and she could walk, bike or bus to the local market and special events. She enjoyed conversations and trusted and helped her neighbors. These were sweet and simple times.

Linda studied at the University of Utah and the University of California, Berkeley. She loved living in San Francisco where she was involved in musical, artistic and political experiences while working with the California Political Poll, Survey Research Services and the Family Dog.

Linda returned to Salt Lake in the 1970s to create a clothing and art store, "Mother's Earth Things" with her dear sister, Tamara. Linda's sisters Jill and Tamara contributed their creations and time to "Mother's Earth Things" which served the community from 1970-85 and it was great pride to Linda and Tamara.

Linda enjoyed organizing and creating music and crafts festivals such as the Westminster May Fest from 1970-75. She participated in organizing the Mule Hollow Fest and Park City Jazz Festival in 1977 along with G. Floor and G. Goodman.

Favorite activities during Linda's life were participating in a diverse volleyball group (for 25 years), working as Department Supervisor in domestic and foreign sales for Scientific American/Henry Holt Publishing company, bird watching, listening to Jazz and blues music. She loved exploring The San Rafael Swell, The Tetons, Telluride, The Wind River Range, and combing the California Coastal shores of Moss Beach, Half Moon Bay and Point Reyes. The spiritual quality of nature nurtured Linda's soul, as did listening to the next good story and sharing laughs with her friends and family.

Linda was an organizer and leader who enjoyed service until the very end, having served as President of her condo HOA for many years until her unfortunate accident.

Linda is survived by her sisters Tamara Buranek, Jill Huntington (Doug Smith), nephew Marcel Buranek, niece Misha Buranek (Gary Archibald) Lux and Coco Archibald and godchild Benjamin Gormley. She was preceded in death by her father Reese Dean Huntington, mother Nadine Cole Schreiner, stepfather Robert Schreiner and brother-in-law Thomas Buranek.

Many thanks to Robin Kilpatrick for her care, kindness and making Linda laugh so often. Per Linda's request she does not want a funeral service, but she would like to remind her loved ones and friends to "Live from the Heart and Sing your Own song."

I'll remember Linda forever! I enjoyed sitting with her long after the HOA meetings would end just to talk about life! She was an incredible person and had so much love in her heart.

Tamara & family - sending my warmest regards to all of you at this time. I have been friends with Linda since
the '70's & Mother Earth's was our favorite place to
shop. I may still have a few of my favorite items !
Although I'm sorry Linda has left us, I'm glad she can
now be at peace.

Linda and I were friends in junior high and high school. She was one of the few who were honest and kind, a rarity among young teenage girls. When I saw her picture in the obituaries I knew who it was immediately. Many years later I was pleasantly surprised to reconnect with her at Mother Earth's Things. I still have a silk jewelry roll that came from her shop. She was a lovely lady.

What a loss of a special and unique soul. I did not know Linda personally, but shopped at Mother Earth's Things often. I always appreciated the beauty Linda created there. I offer my condolences to her friends and family. May you feel her spirit always.
