Linda Turner Obituary

Linda North Turner 1943 ~ 2008 Linda North Turner passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at the home of her brother Stan. Linda fought an amazing and determined battle against Stage 4 Breast Cancer. Born June 24, 1943 to George A and Wanda S. North. Graduated from Granite High School in 1961. Linda married Lester Turner in 1964. Linda's marriage was cut short when Lester passed away in 1987. Linda met John Grant and they shared a special relationship until John's death in 2003. Linda was employed at the Eagle Company and later American Express where she retired in 2003. Linda followed her mother's lead in volunteerism with the American Legion Auxiliary and the Salt Lake Salon 256 of the 8/40 group, which is a subsidiary organization of the American Legion Auxiliary. She held all possible leadership positions at the Unit, District and Department levels of the Auxiliary, she was the Department Chaplain as well as the Department Treasurer. It was the 8/40 group where Linda followed Mom into taking leadership at a National Level; she was the Western Regional Demi-Chapeau. Linda supported the charities of the Auxiliary and the 8/40; she took a yearly trip to the National Jewish Hospital in Denver. All those who have worked with her will miss her dedication and leadership. Linda is survived by her daughter Jacqueline Whipps, stepson Mike (Christy) Grant, Minnie her faithful dog, sister Cathy (Gary) Olsen, brother Stan (Tyma) North, two adopted sisters Cheryl Jensen and Lou Vandermeyden, her grand dogs River and Sassie, three nieces, five nephews and many grand nieces and nephews. Her grandparents, parents, husband and significant other John preceded Linda in death. A celebration of Linda's Life will be held at Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, on Saturday Oct. 25, 2008 at 2 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation (2487 E. Provo Canyon Road, Provo, UT 84604), or the National Jewish Children's Hospital in Denver, Colorado in Linda's name. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Patricia Legant and her staff, IHC Infusion Services and the Salt Lake Salon #256 of the 8/40.

To my Aunt Linda,
I will cherish every moment we have had together. When we would bake all the treats for the family christmas party. When we would go to the Junior Auxilary meetings. All the travels we went on. I will especially miss our yearly attendance to see The Nutcracker. You were a leader, a teacher, and most of all my friend. You will be greatly missed and loved by many.
Your Niece,

I shall miss you Aunt Linda.
When I was younger I would get so excited whenever I would hear that we were going over to Aunt Linda's & Uncle Les's house.
It was always so much fun, we would get there and I would always run to the down stairs to play with the bumper pool game. Christmas at their house was always a special day for me.
I also enjoyed those times at the American Legion Post 71 when it was on the corner of 33rd So. 7th E.
Fish day was always my favorite, Aunt Linda would always tell me to be careful and don't fall into the river! "I don't want to wet today" and she always said it with a smile! I could go on, for there are a lot more fond memories that I have of my Aunt Linda. I will miss you Linda!!!!
Love always your Nephew....

To the family-
We will SO miss Linda at the Auxiliary. She was an amazing woman! I haven't been involved for very long, but I will miss seeing her at every meeting and at Bingo. She was a very sweet and very kind woman. Please take comfort and know she is in a better place and not suffering any longer. You all are in our hearts at this time. May God bless you and watch over her.
