Lowell Plowman Obituary

Lowell Brent Plowman passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah, from the effects of a prolonged illness. He was 73 years old.
Brent was born June 12, 1943, in Logan, Utah, the second of two children of Lowell Thomas and Bernice Nelson Plowman. Brent grew up working on the family farm, where he learned the values of responsibility and hard work. As a youth, he was active in the Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle. In 1961, Brent graduated from North Cache High School and then continued his studies at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. From 1962 to 1964, he served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northeast British Mission.
Returning to Utah State, Brent earned an MBA in 1968. A few years later, he was reintroduced to Kathleen Attey, whom he had met briefly as a missionary years previously in England. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Utah LDS temple June 11, 1971. Brent and Kathy raised their family and resided in Bountiful, Utah, for the majority of their life together.
The bulk of Brent's professional life was spent working for the LDS Church, giving him the opportunity to travel to North and South America, Europe, and East Asia. A two-year assignment as director of temporal affairs took Brent and the family to San Juan, Puerto Rico, allowing Brent to visit many of the islands of the Caribbean. His other assignments included executive secretary to Elder H. Burke Peterson, president of the Church's North America Southwest Area; stints in the Physical Facilities and Welfare departments and the Presiding Bishopric's office; and the Perpetual Education Fund, under the direction of Elder John K. Carmack, for which Brent became the organization's first controller in 2001.
A lifelong member of the LDS Church, Brent served as a stake missionary along with Kathy in Michigan, and he later was called as branch president of the University of Michigan student branch in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He also served as high priests group leader, Gospel Doctrine and Sunday School teacher, coach, and home teacher, among many others.
Preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, William Dexter Sanders, Brent is survived by Kathy, his wife of nearly 46 years; children Michael (Jana), Layton; Jonathan, North Salt Lake; David (Jessica), Woods Cross; Benjamin (Adrienne), Centerville; Stephen (Summer), North Salt Lake; Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Wood, Centerville; 12 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sister Marilyn Sanders, Fairfield, California; and numerous nieces and nephews in Utah, California, and England.
A viewing will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 21, at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main St., Bountiful. An additional viewing will take place from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., prior to funeral services Saturday, April 22, at 11:00 a.m. at the North Salt Lake Utah Legacy Stake center, 934 W. 1100 N., North Salt Lake. Interment will follow in the Smithfield City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Perpetual Education Fund. Online guest book at www.russonmortuary.com.

Dear Kathy and Family
Carolyn McMullin told us told us today that Brent had gone ahead to prepare a place for you and the children. We are sorry for you but happy for Brent. The obit spoke of a lengthy illness which we are sorry about, but that is over now. Someone wondered once if coming to earth was are traumatic as leaving usually is, but they offered no answered. As I get older these thoughts occur with greater frequency. Janet is dealing with Parkinson's, which offers a unique set of challenges.
We have fond memories of Brent; our times in Ypsilanti, playing bball, many discussion re
religion and politics, our trip to SLC with our baby Seth to look for a home and Brent to propose to you (I think). After Ypsi everyone got busy with family and other parts of life. Our occasional visits were pleasant.
Isn't it wonderful to have some understanding of The Plan of Salvation at these times, and family around us.
Please remember we send our best wishes, and prayers.
Jack and Janet Gambee
