Mabelle Govan Obituary
Mabelle E. Govan 1921 ~ 2008 Mabelle Ester Govan was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, January 13, 1921, daughter of Vivian M. and Stephen Coss. While a senior in high school, Mabelle met and married Hughes W. Govan and became the proud mother of four adorable children, two girls and two boys- Robert, the eldest, Hughes, the second child, Nurjhan, the youngest girl until the birth of Danielle, the baby of the family. Mabelle was preceded in death by her husband and two children. She is survived by Robert and Nurjhan. At an early age, Mabelle showed academic ability becoming spelling champion of school. She excelled in real estate becoming both a real estate agent and broker. However, it was Mabelle's love for people and joy caring for others that propelled her into the healthcare field. After completing training at Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts, Mabelle began a career in nursing. She retired in 1985. In August 2000, while attending the Northwest Missouri Annual Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Mabelle answered the call to Christian Discipleship in response to the preaching and invitation of the Rt. Reverend John R. Bryant, the then, Presiding Prelate of the Fifth Episcopal District of A.M.E. Church. Soon after, Mabelle became a member of Grant A.M.E. Church, Moberly, Missouri. At the time of her passing, Mabelle was residing in Salt Lake City, Utah with her daughter and attending Trinity A.M.E. Church. Friday, July 18th, Mabelle experienced respiratory distress and was taken to the Emergency Room of Salt Lake City Regional Medical Center. Between the hours of 9-10 p.m., Mabelle departed life as we know it in day's world and began a new existence in the time zone of eternity and the presence of Jesus. We, who know and love Mabelle, salute the meaningfulness of her life of service and celebrate the wonder of a remarkable, heavenly home-going. Homegoing services, a viewing and memorial, will be held at Trinity A.M.E. Church, 239 East Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd (600 S.), Salt Lake City, Utah, Wed., July 23, 2008 at 7 p.m. From there, Mabelle will travel by air, accompanied by her daughter, the Reverend Nurjhan B. Govan, back to Boston, Masschusetts. Sat., July 26, 2008 at 10 a.m., funeral services will be held at the Charles Street A.M.E. Church, 551 Warren Street, Roxbury, Massachusetts with the interment at the Forest Hills Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to Trinity or Charles Street.
