Maria VanBrocklin Obituary

Maria Maxine Gardner VanBrocklin 8/8/21~5/19/03 Our loving mother, Maria Maxine Gardner VanBrocklin, gently passed away Monday, May 19, 2003 at her daughter's home in Kaysville, near her own home in Kaysville, Utah.  She was preceded in death by six brothers, Harold, Delos, Lincoln, Darrel, Kenneth and Vern, four sisters, Allie, Marguerite, Dorothy and Elna, one great-grandson, Christian Tyler Higley. She is survived by two sisters, Cumora Miles and Genevieve (Les) Bullard; six children, Pamela (Greg) Higley, Kaysville; Bob (Chris) Centerville; Jill (Rod) Moore, Layton; Kelly (Leann), Kaysville; Annette (Steve) Lewis, Kaysville; and Todd (Allyson), Fruit Heights; 17 grandsons, 14 granddaughters and 25 great-grandchildren.  She was born in Rupert, Idaho August 8, 1921 to Brigham D. and Maria Blacker Gardner and raised in Star Valley, Wyoming.  She attended Star Valley High School, Brigham Young University and was working in Washington, DC when she joined the Marine Corps serving during World War II. There she met and married her husband Robert, she was married for 24 years. Maxine was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including Gospel Doctrine instructor, Relief Society President and many other teaching positions. She enjoyed Genealogy and Temple Extraction for many years. She served a mission to London, England and in the Bountiful Temple.  Her selfless example of love, charity and her countless acts of uncharted Christian service will be followed and exemplified for generations by her posterity. She enjoyed the beauty of the mountains, time with her children and grandchildren, sports and reading. Her love of family and her guidance through the difficulties of life will be missed by all. She lived a life of sacrifice for goodness and was a model of what an eternal mother could be. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2003 at Farmington 20th Ward, 1885 North Summerwood Drive. Friends and family may call Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main and Thursday 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
