Marilyn Zieve Obituary

Marilyn Gibbons Zieve

1929-2025

Kerrville, TX-Marilyn Gibbons Zieve, 95, of Kerrville, Texas passed away on April 13, 2025, after a long and full life. She was born on May 25,1929 in Grantsville, Utah, the daughter of Gwen and Glenn Gibbons. She was raised on the beautiful T7 Ranch in Oakley, Utah, which was homesteaded by her grandfather in the 1890s. She spent all her school years in Kamas, Utah and graduated from South Summit High School on May 23, 1947. While at South Summit, she met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Zieve, who was one year her senior. They were smitten for life. They married on September 3, 1948, and enjoyed 67 years of married life together before Bob passed in 2015.

She followed Bob to the University of Utah to pursue a degree in Education but did not complete her studies there. She did not go back to college until much later and graduated from Texas Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Science degree on August 29, 1969.

As a result of Bob's career as a geophysicist, they left Utah and moved all around the U.S. They lived in Texas (where their daughter Carol was born), Alabama, North Dakota (where their son Rick was born), Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Oklahoma, Louisiana and ultimately back in Houston, Texas. When Bob retired in 1988, they moved to Kerrville in the Hill Country of Texas. They lived a happy retirement together, with their winters spent in Kerrville and their summers back on her beloved T7 Ranch in the mountains of Utah.

Over her long life, Marilyn enjoyed many interests and hobbies. She was a voracious reader - of everything from historical fiction and westerns to Southern Living Magazine! She was an avid baker. She loved to sew - including many of her own clothes. She enjoyed shopping for the latest fashion trends - a gene she passed on down the female side of her family!

She had a keen interest in shopping for antiques - especially those with stories attached. She was passionate about tending to her garden on the T7 Ranch. She frequently attended events - including the rodeo in her hometown in Utah, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in Salt Lake City and the Symphony in Kerrville. She and Bob loved to travel in their retirement and explored many wonderful places. She enthusiastically volunteered as a docent at the Schreiner Mansion in Kerrville. But above all, she loved to entertain and spend time with her cherished family and friends.

Marilyn (known as Mimi to her family) is survived by her son, Rick Zieve; her grandchildren, Jeff Towne, Andrea Sanger, Garret Zieve and Glenn Zieve; and her great-grandchildren, Nathan Towne, Lucas Towne, Elizabeth Sanger and Colin Sanger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Zieve and daughter, Carol Towne.

Marilyn's family extends much gratitude to the wonderful caregivers she had from Home Instead over the last 18 months of her life - most especially Teresa, Daisy and Christina from whom she received such extraordinary care.

A graveside service for Marilyn will take place at 1:00pm, Saturday May 10, 2025, at Salt Lake City Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Bob and parents, Gwen and Glenn.

In Kerrville, a celebration of Marilyn's life will be held in the Cedar Crest Room at Riverhill Country Club from 4:30pm to 6:30pm on Sunday June 1, 2025.
