Marion Benson Obituary

Marion Benson 1926 ~ 2008 Our beloved mother, Marion Gardner Benson, passed away on June 26, 2008 in Lakewood, Washington. She is one of God's most lovely, devoted and righteous daughters.Marion was born in Salt Lake City on February 23, 1926 to Amelia Earhardina Peterson and Thomas William Gardner. When she was four years old, the family moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, where she grew up. Her childhood was filled with music lessons and she excelled at the piano, the violin and in school. Marion graduated from Brigham Young University in accounting. She met her beloved husband, Stanton F. Benson at BYU. They were married on August 12, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had the happiest of marriages and were totally and completely devoted to one another. Marion was the perfect example of how a righteous woman should live her life. Her intelligence, common sense, and kindness made her a pleasure to be around. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a cheerful, positive disposition and always looked for the good in others. Marion loved beauty in character and expression. She sought to refine herself in every possible way. She was beautiful, elegant, gracious and disciplined. Her character was beyond reproach and her loving kindness endeared her to all who knew her. She was blessed with many natural gifts and talents and she spent her life developing them. She was an extremely accomplished pianist and violinist. At the age of 13 she performed an entire piano recital, by herself, with distinction. She filled her home with the beautiful things she painted, sewed, cross-stitched, and needle pointed. Our mother will be lovingly remembered for the love and devotion she always showed to her children. Her greatest sources of happiness were her home and family. Our childhoods were filled with sweet, happy celebrations of holidays, birthdays, and family vacations. Even our daily routines were pleasant and harmonious. She made life fun, peaceful, and beautiful for us. She had great faith and confidence in her children. We cherish our memories of her. Marion is survived by her four daughters: Mari (Fred) Feller, Jan (Gary) Lindsey, Brooke (David) Kubinski, and Patricia (Eric) Andrew. 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive her. Her loving husband Stan preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held TOMORROW, Wednesday, July 2nd at the Holladay 28th Ward Chapel, 2625 Milo Way (4910 South), Holladay, UT 84117 at 12:00 noon.

I am so sorry to hear about your mother. My parents, Thurl and Virginia Jacobson, treasured their friendship with Marion and Stan in both New Jersey and in Utah. How fortunate both couples were to share a large group of dear friends--and friendships that crossed the years and the continent. Although I never lived in New Jersey, I visited often and remember Marion's artistic gifts--her lovely tole painting and her music.
With my mother's recent death, I empathize with your loss. I wish you much comfort and fond family memories.

As I read Marion's obituary, I was taken back to the dinner group in Springfield, MA in the 1960's. It has been many years, but I remember Marion as a most gracious hostess whenever we met in their home. I send my condolences to her family at this time.

We would like to extend sympathy in the loss of your mother who was a grand woman in every way. She and I had a lot in common with playing the organ and sewing and playing bridge. We have very fond memories of her talents and friendship. We saw your parents at the opera and other Short Hills parties in Utah since we retired here. We are happy Stan and Marion were not separated on earth too long. We wish you lovely girls the very best. We hope you remember us from NJ. Afton and Bud Nickerson

Dear Family of Marion Benson,
Who ever penned the obituary statement of Sister Benson did it with accuracy and class.
Marion was that an anything else that represents a " Latter-Day Saint"
She had character and love written on face at all times. She was happy and made others happy in her presence.
We were honored to be part of her life while they were living in Short Hills Ward in New Jersey.
Eternally grateful for Marion's example
Harlan and Mary Alice Clark
