25 years ago, we moved into our home and were lucky to have the Smith's as our neighbors. We instantly became friends and throughout the 25 years, they have become family.
So many times, we hear friends and co-workers complaining about their neighbors and I am thinking…. I cannot remember a time when we did not get along with the Smith family.
What I can remember is how Pa would wash and wax his vehicles at least two per times a week; offer to wash our cars and at times actually doing so.
For the last two years Pa had been sneaking out and feeding my dog hotdogs.
Pa knew that my wife and I loved cashews and on their shopping days, they would purchase them and bring us over a can.
Every Mothers day, Pa would by flowers for Chase to give to his mother.
For as long as I can remember, Pa and Roseanne would buy us a honey baked ham for Christmas. This was his way of making sure we had something.
In the winter time let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Pa was always there with his snow blower clearing out our sidewalk and driveway. Just this winter Pa was out there doing his thing. I often joke with Roseanne, thanking her for the best Christmas gift Pa and I received.
For 18 years, Pa and Roseanne have been putting money into a savings account for my son to go to college.
This spring and summer will be extremely hard for me. I have lost another reliable fishing buddy. Pa loved fishing and was always there when I invited him. He shared many stories about his hunting trips with his son, Shane and his camping trips with his daughter, Sunni. He was a devoted husband. He loved his grandchildren and was proud of his daughter in law, Kelly and son in law, Ryan.
Pa was a special man, one of those rare individuals. The moment you met him, you never questioned his character. You just knew he was an honest and decent man.
Thanks Pa.
We love you.
