Mark Hurd Obituary

1947 ~ 2012
Mark Steven Hurd, Well- He finally did it!! Kicked the bucket, bought the farm, bit the dust. In Mark's own way, sticking out his tongue at all of us and saying adios to this life, he went to be with the Lord May 20, 2012 at age 64. Mark was lively, energetic, and adventurous prior to being diagnosed with congestive heart failure, multiple myeloma and other ailments that finally did him in. He was born December 29, 1947 in Huntington Beach, California to Huston Jack Hurd and Mary Thelma (Watkins) Hurd.
Mark truly loved life, people and Park City and spent many years working at Albertsons in town. He was loved by the community because of his fun-loving antics and fantastic sense of humor; one might have called him a "social butterfly." He enjoyed spending most of his time outdoors or with his family and friends. He was passionate about the beach, surfing, and outdoor photography. He also enjoyed dancing, fishing, hunting, water-skiing, snow-skiing, hiking, camping, and teasing others whenever he could get away with it.
Mark is survived by his dedicated and loving wife, Linda; his bossy and vivacious daughter, Tricia (Shawn Hazelrigg), his creative and outspoken son, Michael (Wendy Hurd) and his three greatly treasured grand-children, Gabriela, Grayson and Emira. He is also survived by his sister, Lajunta Shopfner, his brother Jim (Betty Hurd) and many extended family members as well as his two favorite dogs Bailey (a pit bull and his favorite breed) and Trigger, a lab mix. Those who knew him well will forever miss his warmth, compassion, generosity, sense of humor and way with words.
In lieu of flowers Mark would have wanted one of three options: 1) Donations to either SOS Ministries (c/o Mountain Vineyard), 2) a bottle of your favorite wine with a personal note or special memory attached so the family can continue to toast Mark's memory while reading the kind words 3) Support pit bulls through "bestfriends.org"
Family, friends and acquaintances are invited to join in a "CELEBRATION OF LIFE" for Mark as he has joyfully reconnected with family members in Heaven who entered the pearly gates before him. The celebration will begin Saturday morning, May 26th at 11 a.m. at Mountain Vineyard Christian Fellowship, located at 1401 Kearns Blvd., Park City, Utah. Food will be served immediately following the celebration in order to allow Mark's friends and family time to visit and share stories and memories of Mark.

It was many years ago when I last saw Mark. He, along with a few other family members all showed up at his Aunt Josephine's (Jo and Smity's) place in Garden Grove. We spent a couple of hours and the only thing I remember was we laughed so hard the whole time, that my sides had bruises the next day. He was one of a kind and I know he is missed everyday. I have had this page pop up a few times, but just was not ready to post. I spoke to your sister today, she does not sound any different, just memory issues. And you could hear her smile through the phone. Thinking of you Mark and the rest of the family. I am back to working on the family tree now.

What a wonderful, honest & funny obit in the paper! I didn't know Mr. Hurd, but from reading the obit and the comments from his friends, sure sounds like it was my loss not to have known him. May all his family and friends remember him in the way that he would like.

I have so many fond memories at Huntington Beach Elementary and High School with Mark. He was easy-going with an infectious smile and sense of humor. He never forgot his roots, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Linda, Tricia, and Michael just know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
