Marly Sharp Obituary

Marly P. Sharp

1942-2023

Salt Lake City, UT-Marly Porto Sharp, age 81, died November18th, 2023. Marly passed peacefully in the privacy of her home with her adult children by her side. Her cancer diagnosis was sudden and unexpected. Marly left behind the footprints of an admired woman, wife, mother, friend and colleague to many persons throughout her life. Born and raised in Belo Horizante, Brazil, Marly's path to the United States began in 1962 at the young age of 20 when she was married by proxy to a childhood friend, Pantaleao Muniz daSilva. Panta, who was just 23, awaited his young bride's arrival in Salt Lake City, Utah, with great excitement. Marly's mother, Carmen, brother, Guilerme, and sister, Marlene, joined the household in those early years. Marly and Panta's 13-year marriage produced three children: Monica, Jean-Pierre and Stephen Muniz daSilva. Even after they parted ways, their respect for one another and their friendship lasted another half century. Marly married Michael K. Sharp, now deceased. They bonded the love they shared for one another with the birth of their daughter, Nicole Sharp. Marly loved to host dinners, play tennis, ski, and travel. Her long time partner in these activities was Jose Barabino, now deceased. Family was Marly's first priority, yet she was also a self-sufficient and independent career woman. She began selling real estate in the 1970s, moved on to mortgage banking in the 1980s and 90s, and became the first woman appointed Vice President of United Savings and Loan in Salt Lake City. Marly continued to sell real estate with K.W. Realty from 2017 to 2022 and served on the board of her H.O.A. in Midvale, Utah. She will be remembered for her deep knowledge of mortgage lending and real estate and for her professional and social contributions to her community. Marly left a proud legacy for the next set of kids she loved to spoil and talk to, her grandchildren Alexander and Dominique Lowen and Kostya and Alma daSilva. She was also close with the loving wives of the men in the family, Carissa Lowen, Sara daSilva and Sueli daSilva, as well as her sister-in-law, Maria Pia. We will all miss Marly's cooking and her gardening skills showcasing beautiful plants and flowers in her yard and on her patio in every season. The recent loss of her beloved son, Jean-Pierre, in a six year battle with cancer, was Marly's greatest sadness. We hope in our hearts that she is with him now in a place of peace, along with her parents, Anibal and Carmen, her partner and special friend, Jose Barabino, and all those she cared for in life who have passed on. We know Marly will be close by in spirit with all her devotion and love watching over her family and friends, including those in need or unable to care for themselves. We will all forever miss this classy, beautiful woman with a dry sense of humor and Brazilian accent. A celebration of life will occur with details to be determined.

I had the honor and pleasure of working with Marly for many years at both United Savings Bank and Zions Bank. She was a very knowledgable Mortgage professional and so very good with
the people.
Marly was a bright light for those she worked
with and for the mortgage customers too.
Thanks to all of Marly's family for sharing her
with her many, many friends.
So sorry for your loss.

Marly was so kind to me, I'll never forget it. She would bring me homemade blueberry muffins and we'd giggle all day. She was certainly a force to be reckoned with! I'll miss her greatly. Prayers to her family.

I am sad at the passing of Marly. I knew her in the 70's when she worked at Eagar and Company Real Estate. I am glad I got to know her. I thought she was always a special person.
