Masao "Mas" Endo passed away Saturday, November 5, 2016 in Clearfield, Utah.
He was born to Matsuzo and Yone Miyagishima Endo on January 17, 1926 in Mesailla Park, New Mexico.
The family moved to Las Animas, Colorado and to Southern California in 1939. In May 1942, the family was evacuated from the West Coast of California to an internment camp in Poston 1, Arizona. He graduated from high school in the camp in June 1944.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, stationed in Germany and Belgium from November 1944 to August 1946. He was honorably discharged at Fort Sheridan, Illinois.
Mas married Haruye Kosaiku of Layton, Utah on April 27, 1957 at the Buddhist Church of Ogden. They shared many happy and wonderful times, enjoying scenic tours and cruises together. She passed away in 2005. They were married for 48 years. They raised two daughters, Linda and Gaylene.
He was a member of the Buddhist Church of Syracuse, then the Buddhist Church of Ogden and served many years on the Board of Directors. He was President of the Buddhist Church of Ogden, followed by President of the Buddhist Temple of Utah and Idaho, where he also served as Secretary and Treasurer.
Mas retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1980 after 35 years of service. He was a Veteran of World War II and a member of the Layton Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8307.
He is survived by his two daughters, Linda Endo, Clearfield, UT; and Gaylene (Mark) Koehn, Montgomery, TX; one brother, Hiroshi (Shirley) Endo, Clinton, UT; four sisters, Jane Kunugi, Westminster, CO; Mary Kamigaki, Dillon, MT; Sachiko Gibo, Honolulu, HI; Yayoi Leard, Clearfield, UT; and one sister-in-law, Ritsuko Endo, Riverdale, UT. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Haruye, his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Buddhist Church of Ogden, 155 North Street, Ogden, Utah. The family will meet with friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 at the church. Interment, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
