Michael Littlefield Obituary

Michael Shaw "Mike" Littlefield

March 30, 1948 ~

April 25,2022

Salt Lake City, UT- Michael Shaw "Mike" Littlefield died Monday, April 25, peacefully at home due to multiple health issues.

He was born March 30, 1948, to Waldo and Afton Shaw Littlefield, the youngest of three sons. Mike grew up in the East Millcreek area of Salt Lake County and graduated in 1966 from Skyline High School, where he was known as the life of the party and made many lifelong friends.

He graduated from the University of Utah in audiology and speech pathology and worked for 40 years in the family business, Littlefield Hearing Aids with his father and brothers Paul and Lyman. Founded by their father, Waldo, in 1946, they sold the business in 2011.

Mike was a dedicated outdoorsman and embarked on many adventures with his many friends, including scuba diving, sailing, jeeping (particularly around the Moab area) and camping.

Mike seemed destined to be a lifelong happy bachelor until he met the love of his life, Jan Heinz, who had actually gone to Skyline with Mike but they barely knew each other until they met well into their 40s with a group of mutual friends. Jan had been an equally dedicated bachelorette and was a veteran airline stewardess. They eloped in 1994 and had a huge party at their newly acquired house to celebrate.

Jan died of cancer in 2019 and Mike could never quite fill that void that left in his life afterward.

Mike is survived by his brother Paul (Kathy), sister-in-law Margaret, three cats: Daisy, Duke and Beau; and many friends and family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Waldo and Afton Littlefield, his brother Lyman and his wife Jan.

I just learned of Mike's passing from a Facebook post Paul was tagged in. I knew Mike and Paul from the Hearing Aid industry and various conferences over the years, as well as involvement in the HHPU. I always had great respect for Mike and Paul, my deepest condolences.
