Michael Perkins Obituary
Mike was in a loving relationship with his life partner of 25 years, Becky Guillory. They met in the Geology Dept. at the University of Utah while Mike was finishing up his PhD degree. Mike was a kind and gentle soul who enjoyed the outdoors and spending time in the peacefulness of the wilderness. He loved geology and always loved what he was doing – working in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Patagonia, or simply traversing the U.S. in search of ash beds from previous volcanic eruptions were the things that made him the happiest.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents Herschel and Gloria Perkins; and grandparents Ed and Wanda Skovmand, and Tom and Birdie Perkins. He is survived by his life partner, Becky Guillory; his sister, Linda (Val) Marchus; and his brother Steve (Linda) Perkins.
As per Mike's wishes, there will be no service and his body will be cremated and his ashes spread at Mono Lake in California - a place Mike first did research as a TA at Berkeley University and returned many times over the years.

I remember the day when Mike and another student came to my office at the University of Nebraska and asked me about my work on the Ogallala group in Nebraska. He had used my geologic maps of western Nebraska to find and collect volcanic ash samples and wanted to know what more I knew about them. After that Mike and I worked together many times in the 1990s and early 2000s on the volcanic ash deposits in the Miocene of Nebraska.
He was a good friend and outstanding researcher. I do and will miss him greatly.
