Michael Craig Roring, or "Sonny" as his mother nick-named him, age 24, died in Orem, Utah, on February 21, 2015. He was born June 11, 1990, in Provo, Utah, son of Michael Nielson Roring and Kellie Marie Whipple Roring.
Craig was a vibrant spirit with both a strong will and strength. He was an exceptional heavy equipment operator and auto-mechanic builder. He learned these skills since early childhood on the family farm. He loved to tear things apart to see how they worked. His ability to see the grand and final vision of a project or task was brilliant, developing quickly into the uncanny aptitude of knowing instinctively what needed to be done in order to see that it was done right. As such, people sought him out for these capacities, talents, and more to enjoy his charismatic presence as well as to feel his love for them through his contagious laugh, happy heart, and deep sense of compassion. He enjoyed going to the farm, rebuilding/redesigning trucks, hunting, and watching funny movies. He was at his happiest welding, working on cars, pounding on metal, or just laughing about nonsense with his friends and family members. Craig spent hundreds of hours helping his grandmother at the Historic Bluff Fort in Bluff, Utah, including most of his birthdays starting at age eight. It became a running joke with him to say, "Well it looks like I will be spending my birthday in Bluff. Again."
Craig is survived by his parents; older sister, Lauren Marie (John) Plocher; younger brother, Matthew Steele Roring; nephews, Triton and Bronze Plocher; and niece, Milana Plocher. Also surviving him are his grandmother, Corinne Roring; and grandparents, Douglas (Karen) Whipple Sr., and Connie Whipple (Ed) Mills. Preceding Craig in death were his grandfather, John Edward Roring; and good friend, Carlos Aragon, who was killed in combat in Afghanistan.
Craig will be missed by his family, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends including Alex Warwick, the Black family, Paul Sonderegger, Dean Collard, Lynn Stevens, Chuck Burrand, Vance Seely, Lynn Durrant, Chris Olsen, Lee Styborski , Lowell Billings, Greg Burnette, Chuck Murtomaki, Bill Smith, and all his co-workers. We miss and love Craig deeply, but know we will see Craig again and look forward to the time of that great reunion with anticipation.
A viewing will be held, 9:30-10:40 a.m. prior to memorial services at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 28, 2015 in the North Chapel of Monticello, Utah. Interment to follow in the Monticello Cemetery. Our special thanks to McDougal Funeral Home for their services, and to all of the many family members and friends who loved our Son, Brother, Uncle, and best Friend, Craig. You helped and held us up in our time of need. Thank you.
