MICHAEL ZUNDEL Obituary

Michael Louis Zundel 1966 ~ 2010 Michael Louis Zundel, loving husband and father, age 44, passed away on Saturday, September 18th, after a long and valiant battle with Crohn's disease and cancer. Mike was born to Lee and Vivian Williams Zundel, May 20, 1966, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He grew up in the Highland Park area and graduated from Highland High School. He served a mission for the LDS church in England. Upon returning home, he earned a Bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Utah, and remained a loyal Ute fan his entire life. While at the University, he met and married Elizabeth Anne Chapman. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on July 31, 1990 and have four beautiful children. Mike dedicated many years of his life to serving in the LDS church, holding a variety of callings. He was an enthusiastic sports fan and enjoyed watching and playing baseball. He collected baseball cards, loved the Utah Jazz, the Dallas Cowboys and history. He enjoyed a professional career as an accountant and was known for his strong work ethic. He continued to work through much of his illness.He enjoyed working for Bridgepoint Systems for 12 years, and the family expresses their gratitude for the exceptional support, patience and kindness during his last years with the company. He is survived by his wife and sweetheart, Elizabeth, two sons, Ryan and Eric, and two daughters, Kaylee and Ally; his parents; sisters Manja (Bryan) Van Bibber and Shelly (Bruce) Daniel. He also has many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him greatly. A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23rd at the Grandview LDS Chapel located at 2930 South 2000 East, Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 24 at 11:00 a.m., at the Grandview Chapel, with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Online condolences may be shared at www.cannonmortuary.com

Mike was a great example to me and a great friend and co-worker. I had the pleasure of working with him at Bridgepoint and what a wonderful person he is. Mike is kind, gentle, hardworker, and I never heard him say a negative comment ever. Surely the Lord needed a great person to serve on the other side. May the Lord continue to bless you and your family at this difficult time. You and your family are in our prayers.

I was surprised and saddened in the passing of Elder Zundel. I had the pleasure of serving with him in the London South Mission. He was a wonderful missionary and dear friend. Dear Vivian and Lee, So sorry about your boy. I remember how exciting it was when he joined the world with two older sisters. We lived in the "ward" then and you were always looking out for friends and neighbors. My grandaughter lived in the

Mike was a dear and valued friend since our early school years. We enjoyed scouts together as well as many college classes. As our lives moved forward our families grew close as well. He'll be dearly missed, but we'll hold with us our memories and the positive example his life provided.

Lee, Vivian, Liz and children, Manja and Shelly: Our deepest and most sincere condolences to all of you. I have been kept current through Scott and Tori regarding Mike's difficult illness, and our family has prayed for you all, and will continue to do so. Although seeing Mike and Liz on occasion, most of my memories of him where when he was young -- always happy and full of energy!!! I know he fought with everything he had to stay with you, but Heavenly Father apparently has some greater work for him at this time. It seems that a lot of the "great ones" are taken home near General Conference time. Our prayers will continue as we know that the days and months ahead will be challenging. Enjoy the moments in preparation for the funeral -- they bring the family very close together and great memories are shared.

My deepest sympathy and best wishes go out to the Zundel family. I have worked with Mike for about 3 years, he always greeted me with a smile although seeing me in his office doorway usually meant pausing what he was doing to help me solve a problem. He is a man of integrity that will be greatly missed and remembered as an optimist.
