Milton Gold Obituary

Milton O.Gold 1914 ~ 2003  RAMONA, CA - Milton Osborne Peck Gold, 89, passed away Friday, June 6, 2003 in Ramona, California of causes incident to age and a severe stroke suffered in 1990 which rendered him blind and paralyzed. Milton was born March 30, 1914, in Salt Lake City, UT to Cyrus William Gold and Annie Alazana Peck. Milton was the eighth of 17 children, 14 of whom lived to adulthood, and with whom he had a close bond all of his life. His mother died when he was 6 years old and he was reared by a loving second mother, Edith Benfell (Mother Edith), the "only mother really remember...." Milton married Linnie W. Parker Oct 1, 1936 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are the parents of Cherry (Ed) Wolf (Hillsboro, OR), M. Dale (Evon) Gold (Sandy, UT), Stephen J. (Julie) Gold (Cedar City, UT), Sidney C. (Dona) Gold (Coldspring, TX), and Bryant R. (Elizabeth) Gold (Ramona, CA). They have 29 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren. Prior to their current residence in Ramona, CA, they built and lived in three different homes, Salt Lake City, UT (12 years); Granite, UT (39 years); and Kanab, UT (11 years), in addition to having built and enjoyed a family cabin in the Utah mountains. Milton was a devoted son of God. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served within the church wherever he was called. He served three full-time missions, Southern States (1933-35); Toronto Canada (1979-80); and Coventry England (1982-83), the latter two missions being served alongside his wife, Linnie. Milton was an electrical engineer by profession, having graduated from the University of Utah, 1942. He spent the major part of his professional career working for Kennecott Copper Corporation (1954-79); worked several years for EIMCO Corporation; American Smelting and Refining Company; and Utah Power and Light. To his family and friends, he was known as "Mr. Fix-it," as it seemed that he could fix or make almost anything. He greatly enjoyed working in his garage and shop, and was especially happy when he was helping others. Milton is survived by his wife, Linnie; their five children (named above); brothers, Joel (Roma) Gold (Center-ville, UT), Wayne (Ila) Gold (Mesa, AZ), Stanley (Lynn) Gold (Walnut Creek, CA); and sisters, Gladys (John) Van de Merwe (Bountiful, UT), Barbara (Keith) Russell (Mesa AZ), Lettie (Len) Foote (Mesa, AZ).
