Nancy Thompson Obituary

Nancy Ann Rutter Thompson

October 17, 1939 ~ March 11, 2022

Nancy Ann Rutter Thompson returned to her Heavenly Father on Friday, March 11, 2022. She was born October 17, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Joseph Heber Rutter and Mabel Pauline Christensen Rutter. She married William "Bill" L. Thompson August 11, 1972 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Washington D.C. Temple and all seven children were sealed to Nancy and Bill.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Paula A. Castleton Richards (John) of Nashville, TN and five sons, Michael L. Thompson (Graciela) of Boise, ID, David R. Castleton of Salt Lake City, John K. Thompson (Heather) of Meridian ID; Michael R. Castleton of Ogden, UT; and Brian A. Thompson of Ogden, UT; eighteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, J. Michael Rutter (Linda) of American Fork, UT and John S. Rutter (Paula) of Sandy, UT. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Bill and daughter, Shauna A. Castleton.

Nancy was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many callings throughout her life and especially enjoyed working with the Young Women and Relief Society. Nancy was a devoted mother of seven children and later in life truly enjoyed her many grandchildren and played a very active role in their lives. Nancy loved to listen to her favorite juke box music from the 1950's and drive fast cars with loud "pipes." She courageously overcame many trials in her life due to her unwavering faith in Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ.

We are so happy Nancy has reunited with our Dad Bill, her daughter Shauna, and other loved ones including her many dogs, cats and forest animals she cared for and loved so deeply. We love you Mom. You will always be in our hearts and will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 2 p.m. at the Spring Canyon Ward Chapel, 6350 South Combe Road, South Ogden. A viewing will be held at the church prior to the service at 12 to 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at the Uintah Cemetery.

Dear Nancy has been a good friend since we were childhood friends in Yalecrest Ward. We became closer through high school and college and remained friends throughout our lives, though not always able to be together regularly. My husband and I thought so much of Nancy and admired her devotion to family, friends and the Lord. She was always a beauty - inside and out. My love and sympathy to her dear family. May you be blessed with peace and wonderful memories - she is so proud of you.
