Nicholas Saunders Obituary

Nicholas Neil Saunders
1997 - 2020
Herriman, UT-Nicholas Neil Saunders, 22, of Herriman, Utah was called home to his Heavenly Father on April 6, 2020. Nick was a giant of a man in many ways; he was 6'6" with giant sky-blue eyes, a giant laugh, and a personality bigger than life.
Born November 11, 1997, in West Jordan, Utah, Nick was born with incomplete feet and a shortened clubbed left hand. From one year old, he was a double amputee at the ankle, and walking in no time with or without prostheses. Nick was a shining example of defying society's defining limitations his entire life. He ran, played sports, rock climbed, rode bikes, motorcycles, danced, and drove Jeeps rock-crawling. He was unstoppable!
Coming in at 6'5' Nick was a giant in many ways. He had giant sky-blue eyes. He had a giant laugh that would rival anyone's. His personality was bigger than this life could handle.
He is survived by his parents Tim and Heidi Saunders, his brother Brady and his sister Alyssa. He is also survived by both sets of grandparents, aunts, uncles and lots of cousins. He is preceded in death by his beloved baby sister Lyla.
Because of the COVID-19 virus there will be a private graveside service on Friday, April 17th. Those who wish are invited to honor him with a drive-by graveside tribute from 1:00-3:00 pm at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park South Valley, 13001 South 3600 West, Riverton, Utah.

It was both an honor and a privilege to know Nick and to have him as a friend. Nick was always kind to me and would often go out of his way to drop by for a quick chat and I always appreciated that. It was both a challenge and a privilege to have Nick as a student for a couple of years. I say challenge because sometimes Nick just couldn't contain his enthusiasm for certain things. I say privilege because Nick was always willing to share his strong testimony and contribute to our seminary class discussions. I love Nick Saunders and I'm looking forward to being with him again some day. Tim, Heidi, Brady, Alyssa, and the rest of Tim's family, you are a great and eternal family - I am sorry for your temporary loss. Nick often talked about Lyla and I'm grateful for the fact that all of you will be reunited again in the future, forever, because of covenants you have made with God, through your personal obedience in keeping His commandments, and through the Atonement of Jesus Christ!

Tim- I am so very sorry to hear of Nick's passing. Please accept my deepest condolences. I'll always remember what a great father you were to Nick and that you loved him dearly. It's not hard for me to imagine that he must have shared some of your good-natured personality and lively sense of humor. May the Lord bless and comfort you, Heidi, and the rest of your family during this difficult time. May you feel peace and look forward to the day when you'll reunite with "Big Nick" and will joke, laugh, and play together once again. May God's blessings rest upon you.

Sincerely, Rolf

I will always remember the courageous young man who choose me , an adult at youth conference to square dance with. It was so impressed with him that week at all he did to enjoy the experience to the fullest. May your wonderful memories of Nick help you on the days it seems too hard to pull through without him.

Heidi and family We are so sorry to hear of Nicholas' loss. We have so many sweet memories of "Nick-A-Boy" when he was younger. He has always been in our thoughts and prayers. Love, the Black family

I loved Nick! He was a pleasure to teach at South Hills Middle School. He gave students hope to conquer their own challenges, and was always so fun to be around.
I am so sorry for your loss, he was one-of-a-kind.
My sincere love and sympathy to you.
Sincerely,

We lived in the same West Jordan neighborhood briefly when Nick was about 8. I indeed remember his shining eyes. I had not known about his feet until one hot day in Primary when he joined in with other restless kids in taking off their shoes. I never saw him complain about things, which is no doubt a reflection on how you raised him. I am very sorry for this terrible loss.

Nick! I remember you at South Hills Middle School. You always had a big smile on your face and you always said HI to me and chatted with me whenever our paths would cross-which was often because I was always there with PTA. I loved seeing you bouncing down the halls-bigger than life. I saw you a few times after that-in high school- at work- and you remembered my name. I'm sad to see you go so soon. But, I know I will see your amazing smile again. Tell my angel Brenna HI for me! God bless your family with peace until you are all reunited.
