Nyla Deign Nichols Schowe
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend left us on Saturday, May 17, 2014 after a brave struggle with multiple medical problems. Her courage and positive spirit, despite all of her pain, was an inspiration to everyone who knew her.
Nyla was born on February 10, 1932 in Salt Lake City, the only child of Ren W. and Pearle Adderley Nichols. She graduated from Roland Hall School in 1950. She married her "partner for life" William (Bill) Schowe Jr. in 1952. She later received her B.S. Degree in Special Education from the University of Utah, where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She taught Special Education for many years in Susanville, CA and at Hartvigsen School (Granite School District) in Salt Lake City. She loved all of her students and was always willing to listen and help them. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and an active volunteer for Special Olympics and other organizations for the handicapped. As a lover of animals, she took in many "strays" as pets.
Nyla is survived by her husband, Bill; sons, Derryll, Dallan (B.J.) and grandson, Devin. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family would like to thank everyone at Sandy Health & Rehab.

Our sincerest heartfelt thanks to Dallan Schowe for his thoughtful donation to Special Olympics Utah in memory of his mother Nyla. It was wonderful to talk with Dallan and hear how much his mother enjoyed being at the State Games with the athletes. Nyla will always be a member of the Special Olympics Utah family. Thank you again.

I was thinking about the Schowe family today and came across Nyla's passing this afternoon. What a wonderful woman. She was like a second mom to me as I played with Derryll and Dallan almost every day. She was great at helping us out with 4-H demonstrations and the like. She will be greatly missed. My prayers go out to Bill, Derryll and Dallan.

Nyla was such a happy and friendly person. She made me laugh often. She did a fantastic job with the plays at Hartvigsen and had a true love for those students. She will be missed.

My wonderful friend since we were 3 and 4 years old. I loved her sense of humor, her witty poems, her loving and positive nature. I know we'll see each other again. Annette Slade (Toni)
