Patricia Lufkin Obituary

Patricia Beatrice Woodward Lufkin died of causes incident to age in Santa Monica, California, on March 17, 2017. She was born in Manhattan, Kansas, on September 26, 1918, to Earl Cool and Beatrice Reed Woodward. She graduated from the University of Kansas (KU), Lawrence, Kansas, in Dietetics/Nutrition and moved to Boston, Massachusetts, to complete her internship at Massachusetts General Hospital. While living on Beacon Hill in Boston she met Clarence Rawson (Bob) Lufkin, fell in love and married him in May of 1941 in Salina, Kansas. She was working at Ft. Sam Houston in Texas and Bob was at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941. After their marriage she spent the early years of the war in Honolulu with Bob on Waikiki Beach.
Pat and Bob loved to ballroom dance, travel, play bridge, ski and hike. Following Bob's career with General Electric, they lived in Hawaii, New York, California, Utah, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Virginia. She worked in dietetics in several hospitals across the country and retired when she was 80, not interested in learning yet another hospital software program.
Pat was a cradle Episcopalian and a communicant at All Saints Episcopal Church since she and Bob moved back to Utah in the early 1980s. She served on the Vestry and in the Altar Guild at All Saints. She was an active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood for over 50 years and affiliated with a number of PEO chapters. In Salt Lake City she loved the time spent with her friends in the Newcomers Club, Study Club, Book Club, the Guild at All Saints, and the AAUW (American Association of University Women). She and Bob traveled all over the world in retirement and worked with the Friendship Force International in Japan and subsequently hosted Japanese visitors.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandson Nicholas Dyer, and both siblings, Sarah Susah Church and Robert Woodward. She is survived by her children, Susan Dyer, Robert Burnham Lufkin (Jenny Li), Beatrice Lufkin (Peter Hansen) as well as her nephew, Charles W. Church, and her grandniece, Courtney Church Ferrero. She has a grandson Timothy Dyer two granddaughters, Raine and Eden Lufkin.
In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in her name to peointernational.org to support their goal of education for women via scholarships, grants and loans.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 on Saturday, April 29, at All Saints Episcopal Church on 1710 Foothill Boulevard in Salt Lake City. A reception to celebrate memories of Pat and her life will follow.

Truly one of the most wonderful women I have ever had the privilege of meeting. Her friendship meant so much to me during the years we knew each other. And no one had a more beautiful smile. Pat, I so look forward to reunion with you and Bob in heaven in one of HIs many mansions! love, Anne
