RACHEL OMER Obituary

Rachel LaDonna Gaddie Omer 1925 ~ 2010 Rachel LaDonna Gaddie Omer passed away on May 14, 2010. She was born on April 23, 1925 in Sugar City, Idaho to Sherwood Clark and Ethel Zimmerman Gaddie. During her childhood years her father's position with the Utah-Idaho Sugar Company provided her family with the opportunity to live in Chinook, Montana and Bellingham, Washington where she developed a life-long love for the beauties of the Northwest. A final transfer brought the family to Salt Lake City where she attended Irving Junior High School and Granite High School. Following graduation from high school and acceptance to the University of Utah, LaDonna was employed at Fort Douglas with the U.S. Army-G2 and the U.S. Bureau of Mines District Office in Salt Lake City. In 1945 LaDonna married Stanley August Omer, a young U.S. Naval Officer serving in the Pacific Theater. Their marriage in the Salt Lake Temple culminated a war-time courtship which grew into a happy and productive family life in the Holladay area. LaDonna was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Her interests were varied and extensive, including an appreciation for the visual and performing arts and the beauty of God's creations. She always felt blessed to have wonderful friends and neighbors. She loved to learn and her family benefited from her inquisitive mind and spiritual understanding. Always optimistic and steady, she faced life's challenges with cheerfulness and courage. As a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she served faithfully in many callings and developed a deeply rooted faith in God and His Son Jesus Christ. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Craig and Cathy Omer; her daughter Marci Omer; her son James Omer; her grandchildren and their spouses, Ryan and Melisa Omer, Amy and Matt Walker, Elizabeth and Russell Packer, and Scott and Rachel Omer; and her great-grandchildren Lindsay, Joshua, Emily Jane, Morgan and Sadie Omer; Britton, Whitney, Jack and Wyatt Walker; and Kate, Abby and Carson Packer and her sister, Patricia Stevenson. Preceded in death by her husband and her parents. A service will be held on May 20, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at the Olympus First Ward, 4100 S. Camille Street (2522 E.), Holladay, Utah. Viewings will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 Highland Drive, Holladay, Utah, and Thursday, prior to the service, 10:30-11:45 a.m. Interment will follow at the Holladay Memorial Cemetery, 4900 Memory Lane.

We were so sorry to hear about your mother. She truely was a wonderful example to all of us who lived near her for so many years. She was someone to look up to as a child/teenager, and also my mother mentioned many times that the Omers were the sweetest and nicest people she had ever known--and we all agree. May the Lord bless you all at this time. Susan and Ron Johnson

Dear President Omer, Jamie and Marci: LaDonna will be remembered for her beautiful smile and her twinkling eyes when she talked with you. She had a fun sense of humor and was a lovely lady. Stan, LaDonna, Jamie and Marci were the best neighbors anyone could have and all are much loved and respected for their talents and kindness to all in the Olympus neighborhood. Raymond loved home teaching with Stan and was so impressed with his work ethic and his love and devotion to LaDonna. We enjoyed Stan's stories of World War II and his patriotism, and Stan, LaDonna and I had a standing joke as no matter what time of day they went to Dan's to grocery shop they'd see me there . . . it was like we had planned it! They were so proud of their much loved family, and we know your dear mother will be greatly missed. We send our condolences and love, Linda and Raymond Lowe

I will miss Aunt LaDonna for her kindness, her grace, and her love for me and all her family. I have fond memories of her from my childhood as she was sincerely concerned about how I was doing and what I was up to. My brother, Mark, and I spent many afternoons at the Cottonwood Mall with our mother (Melva Omer), Jamie O and Aunt LaD. Coke floats for us all :). Good times. Good memories.
Sincerely,
Ted Omer
