Robert Clayton Obituary

Robert Dexter
Clayton
1924 ~ 2017
Robert Dexter Clayton passed away peacefully in Redding, California on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the age of 93. He was born on February 10, 1924 on his family's farm in the Highland District of South Salt Lake County. He was the third child and first son of his parents Robert McMinn Clayton and Annie Eliza Dexter Clayton.
He graduated from Granite High School, and then spent two years in the Army in France as support for the 9th Air Force during World War II. After he returned from Europe, he married Ruth Vivian Johanson Rice on July 2, 1949. He was a brick mason by trade and he built the home in East Millcreek where they raised their three children. On their half acre, they had fruit trees, berries and a garden, the abundance of which they always shared with friends and family. He was a talented "Jack of All Trades" and many examples of his "Honey-Do Lists" can be seen in the homes of his family and friends. When he could squeeze in the time, he was an avid fisherman and golfer and was skiing well into his 80's.
Bob was pre-deceased by his wife Vivian, step-daughter Karen Radisky, and his siblings Betty Young, Carolyn Ford and Willard Clayton. He is survived by his daughter Sally (Terry) Rapoza of Redding California, step-son Carl James (Lorna) Rice of Torrance, California, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Services will be held at a later date in Salt Lake City. Burial will be next to his wife in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Sandy, Utah.
