Robert Hawkes Obituary

Robert Anderson Hawkes

1944-2023

Robert Anderson Hawkes, better known as Bob, left this world in 2023 on the 8th of June.

Bob Hawkes was born in 1944 on the 12th of June to Grant Anderson Hawkes and Frances "Teddy" Dodson Hawkes in Ogden, Utah. His father opened his own medical practice in Hailey, Idaho when Bob was still a small boy. Bob told many stories about his family, especially about his brother Larry, sister Nancy, and their adventures in Idaho. Bob didn't leave Hailey until 1962 when he graduated from Wood River High School.

After that, Bob moved to Salt Lake City to further his education at the University of Utah. He joined the Navy in 1966 and went to Vietnam. When he completed his military service, he returned to the University of Utah to graduate with a Master of Fine Arts.

In 1971, on the 5th of February, Bob married the love of his life, Victoria Jean Otterstrom Hutten, in Salt Lake City. Bob gained a son from the marriage, and they had a daughter together.

Bob was always a big supporter of the arts. He really valued his many years working for the Capitol Theater, Abravanel Hall, and Rose Wagner. Bob also was an author who published four novels. Bob was lucky enough to retire early and made the most of his golden years by spending most of his time swimming, reading, writing, or watching independent and foreign films.

Bob brought a smile to everyone's face who knew him. He was a very happy character and even described himself as the ultimate optimist. He could see the silver lining of any situation.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, an older brother, Rick, and a baby sister, Dianna.

Bob is survived by his brother Larry Hawkes, sister Nancy Cooper, daughter Melissa Hawkes (Collin) Anderson, son Dan (Sherri) Hutten, and grandchildren Kelsey and Olivia Hutten.

Services will be held at 2pm on Saturday the 22nd of July, at Larkin Sunset Lawn 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Jenae, that is a lovely memory - thank you for sharing it. Bob was a treasure at the Theatre, and just thinking about him brings a smile to my face. Living the dream, indeed.

I am so very sorry. I just learned of Bob´s passing today. I adore that man . I had the pleasure of working with him for three years, and he was one of my favorite people. Every time I tell someone that I´m "living the dream," I will think of him fondly. I am wishing peace to all who loved him.

Memories of Bob are so sweet! He was always so cheerful, smiling, laughing. We enjoyed our times together at Kelsey and Olivia's birthday parties. His drawings are so fun! So whimsical and beautiful. We were happy to have known your dad, Dan, Melissa. We'll miss him! Our hearts go out to you and Melissa, deepest sympathies, Love, Margie and Brock
