Ronald Nielson Obituary
Ron was born to Melba Gladys Nish Nielson and Byron Lafayette Nielson on December 8, 1932 in Clarkston, Utah. He was raised on a farm in Hinckley, Utah and graduated from Hinckley High School. While there he participated in numerous school activities and sports.
Ron graduated with a bachelor's from BYU in 1958 and received his master's degree from Northwestern University in 1960. He served in the Air Force and the Reserves and had a successful career in banking for 34 years.
In 1968, Ron married Doris Humphries. They have 4 children, 23 grandchildren and 3, soon to be 5, great grandchildren who call him "Poppy". He was a kind, caring father who was a great example of honesty, integrity, and dedication.
Ron loved his Savior Jesus Christ. He had a strong faith and was valiant in many church callings including Stake Mission President, Stake Young Men Superintendent, High Counselor, Bishopric Counselor, Bishop, Temple Worker, 3 full time missions and many years in the Family History Centers.
Ron loved his family, running and walking, reading, learning new things, and traveling.
Ron is survived by his loving wife Doris and their four children: Kimberly Pettit (David), Brett Nielson (Andrea), David Nielson (Jody), Karin Nelson (Casey). Ron was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joseph and his sister Carolyn.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the South Mountain 7th Ward, 272 East Traversepoint Drive Draper, Utah with a viewing from 10:30-11:30 am. Ron was the bank manager at United California Bank, Adams and Broadway branch, when I worked there as a platform secretary in the early 60´s. I was a 20-year-old newlywed and my husband was going to school and working part time. He became eligible for the draft when his work schedule caused his college units to dip. He tried everything possible to enter a reserve unit so that he could continue his education. but was unsuccessful. Ron was a Lt Colonel in the Air Force Reserve. He called several people in his unit, vouched for my husband, and was instrumental in the final decision to swear him in. We have been so grateful for these many years, and have told the story of Ron Nielsen to our children and grandchildren.

I just saw this and was saddened by the news. I worked with Ron at United California Bank and then First Interstste Bank in California and Nevada. I enjoyed our time together. My he rest in peace and condolences to his family!

Our father was Ron's mission president in England 70 years ago. He loved and trusted this good young man. We knew him too as we served as missionaries there. He left a blessed legacy for his family. He was a devoted and caring leader. We send love to your family at this sacred time.
