Ruby Barker Obituary

Ruby Ellen McCleery Barker "Bunny" Our loving wife, mother and grandmother, surrounded by her family, peacefully passed from this life May 19, 2007 from causes incident to age. Ruby was born August 19, 1917 to Walter E. and Eva Forbush McCleery in Murray, Utah, the oldest of six children. Ruby met the love of her life, Vearl Barker, during her senior year at Murray High School. Ruby and Vearl loved to dance and danced at almost every hall in the valley. They were married October 8, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. Ruby and Vearl were blessed with five children who were truly fruits of her labors. Ruby was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held numerous callings throughout her life. She worked for the Granite School District lunch program and was a great cook. She was a talented knitter and blessed many lives with this talent. Vearl and Ruby loved to travel and together traversed the country on many trips with the District Symphony and Olympus Male Chorus. Ruby is survived by her husband of 70 years, Vearl; their children: Dixie (Dean) Bergeson, of Pleasant Grove, Utah; Daniel (Randy), of Albion, Idaho; Lynn (Carol), of Seattle, Washington; Jill (Gary) Telford, of West Point, Utah; Jacque (Marty) Sodja, of Bennion Utah; 20 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Delores Litson; brother, Kenneth McCleery; and great-grandson, Quinton Jensen. The family wishes to thank those that cared for our mom, grandmother and wife at Woodland Care Center and Legacy Hospice. We love you. A viewing will be held Thursday, May 24, 2007, 6-8:00 at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Rd. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 25, 2007, 12:00 noon at the Murray 5th Ward, 363 E. Vine St. (4930 S.) where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the funeral. Interment, Murray City Cemetery.

I too have wonderful memories of being at your house and being around your fun family growing up. I was saddened to hear that Aunt Ruby has passed. I can still hear her fun laugh..even now!
