Slade Spencer Obituary

Dr.Slade Lyman Spencer 1970 ~ 2004  Dr. Slade Lyman Spencer died in Tucson, Arizona March 25, 2004 of an accident at his home. He was born June 5, 1970, in Provo, Utah, son of Scott Lyman and Shar Lee Everett Spencer. Slade attended schools in Provo: Sunset View Elementary, Dixon Middle School and Provo High School where he was senior class vice-president. He graduated from Provo High School with high honors, third in his class. He was a science sterling scholar and won the Utah Science Talent Award in 1988. Slade served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Munich, Germany. He graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor's degree in biology. He then went on to graduate from the University of Utah Medical School, where he served as president of the Student American Medical Association. Slade married Nina Freund Lear June 18, 1993. They had two children and were later divorced. He worked at the University of Michigan as a resident in urology. He changed his career and moved to Arizona to be near his children, where he became a resident at the University of Arizona in anesthesia, and was currently serving as Chief Resident. Slade just accepted a position in Scottsdale as an anesthesiologist and was going to begin a career he had worked his whole life for. Slade loved his work, hunting, the outdoors, and horseback riding - especially with his dad and two children. He also enjoyed hiking in the hills of Tucson. Slade was an exceptional young man and was loved by everyone who's life he touched. He had a gift to make people laugh, especially children. He is survived by two children who adored him, Carsten Lear Spencer, 8, and Samantha Opal Spencer, 6; his parents; two sisters, Shonni (Matt) Witt and Solvaye Spencer; grandparents, John and Opal Spencer and Faye (Rulon) Liddle; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him. Slade was preceded in death by his grandfather, Neal Everett. We will gather to remember Slade in Tucson, Arizona Thursday, April 1, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Abby Memorial Chapel, 3435 North First Avenue. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 3, 2004 at 1 p.m. in the LDS chapel located at 55 North Main in Springville, Utah, with a viewing held one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah. Condolences may be sent to www.wheelermortuary.com

To Slade's family and all those who loved him:

Slade's friendship was one of the highlights of my time at Provo High School and continued for several years after we had both graduated and gone our separate ways. I have missed him for a long time and was terribly sad to learn of his passing--even more sad that I was unable to attend the funeral. As so many others here have indicated, he made my life better and happier just by being in it, and my memories of him include everything from long, serious talks to playing follow the leader in the dark when we were both well old enough to know better. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. His big, wonderful heart will always be near and dear to me.

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Slade. He had accomplished a very great knowledge and made many friends throughout his life. I just loved your family, if you remember I spent many nights at your home babysitting your sweet kids and having a ball. It's hard to hear of such a heartbreaking experience in your family and my thoughts are with you at your time of loss. I hope you remember me--take care. Tammy

So sorry to hear about Slade! Our family memories took us back to the good old days in Provo when we lived next door to you. Our three kids were the same age as yours and spent a lot of time together. Shannon fondly recalls how bright and funny Slade was even back in elementary school. Monica ran across Shoni in nursing school and would love to talk to her again..489-7797. We have had you in our thoughts all week and want you to know how much we cared for your family. So very sorry for your loss!

To Slades Family;

I am so sorry for your loss. I had the opportunity to attend Slades Funeral and was not surprised to hear that Slade was as friendly and dearly loved outside of high school as he was during his years at Provo High. I like many others remember Slade as having a great smile and willing to be a friend to everyone. My prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Dear Spencers, my wife (Traci Hall) and I are heartbroken for you. We attended the funeral in Springville and remembered along with everyone there one of the happiest and brightest people we knew. I remember a birthday party Slade invited me to in jr. High. We went to Trafalga and I still thik of it as the greatest birthday party I've ever attended. Traci thinks of Slade as a great friend. They worked together in Student Government and had all the same classes in school. We want you to know our prayers are with you. There were many other people from Provo High at the funeral. We all hope you know how much Slade was loved. Sincerely, Jim Blair

To Slades Family- How sad I was to hear the news about Slade. I attended jr. high and high school with him. Even though the news is so sad, it is impossible for me to suppress a smile when I think of Slade. So many fun memories come to mind, but mostly his contagious smile. He was loved by everyone who knew him and a caring friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I worked at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital with Slade when he was doing his residency in urology. Slade and I were going through a divorce at the same time...both with two children...we had many talks together and I thank him for that. My heart goes out to the Spencer family amd Slade's two children...your father loved you.

Scott and SharLee,

I am so sad to hear of Slade's death. I remember speaking with Slade in German at my Grandpa Blake Everett's house shortly after his mission--and then going to his homecoming. I looked up to him as an example, as I left for my mission a year later.

Dear Spencer family,

Slade was my good friend and study mate at the University of Utah. Coincidentally we also were in Ann Arbor at the same time while he was a medical resident and I was pursuing an MBA. I have many fond memories of Slade, and am deeply saddened by your loss. May God be with you during this difficult time.

Warm Regards,

I attended Dixon Jr. and Provo High as well as UofU Medical School with Slade. I remember a kind, caring person. Though not related, it was a compliment to be mistaken as a brother or cousin. Best wishes during this difficult time. Steve

I am so sorry to hear about Slade. When I heard the news my mind went back to a evening in Switzerland many, many years ago when Slade and I were exchanging Lindor Balls and jumping into down feather comforters. What a great time we had that evening!!

I am so sorry for your loss. I hope that your memories of Slade will keep him close to your heart forever.
