Vicki Knudson Obituary

1942 ~ 2018
Vicki Andersen Knudson of Salt Lake City, Utah passed away August 13, 2018 while surrounded by her family. She was 76 years old.
Vicki is survived by her husband, Jerry Knudson; her children Gerald, Martha (Tyler Dickman), Joseph (Natalie), and Michael (Cyndie); and her grandchildren Nathan, Thomas, Culver, Camden, and Ruby. She is preceded in death by her parents Dr. Culver R. and Lois Andersen of American Fork, Utah.
Vicki was born in 1942 in American Fork, Utah. The youngest of three sisters, Vicki was blessed with a kind heart, intelligence, humor, beauty, and a good disposition. She graduated from American Fork High School in 1960. Vicki loved high school. She especially enjoyed spending time with friends, attending school dances, and cheerleading. Vicki went on to attend the University of Utah, graduating in 1964 with a bachelor degree in elementary education. While there she was a U of U song leader, a member of Delta Gamma, and a member of the Little Sisters of Minerva.
Vicki and Jerry married in 1965. They settled in Salt Lake City where Vicki worked as an elementary school teacher. The pair later welcomed four children into their home. Vicki loved being a mother and adored her children. They remember her teaching them the importance of honesty, integrity, kindness, making good choices, and getting a solid education.
As her children got a little older, Vicki returned to teaching until her retirement in 2006. She often remarked how much she liked the children she taught and how she was constantly learning from them. In addition to her teaching, Vicki collected antiques, often visiting antique shops and shows with her sisters and friends. She also loved watching the Utah Jazz, especially the 2018 playoffs! Vicki was interested in people, loved conversation, giving advice, and hearing the latest news. The obituary and comic sections of the newspaper were her favorites. Vicki was very proud of her family, where she came from, and her Utah pioneer heritage. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Vicki will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She lived her life with a pure heart and had a smile and kind word for everyone. We love you Mom and will miss you every single day.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at LDS Hospital East 8 and The Loveland Clinic for Blood Cancer Therapy for their loving care of Vicki. Forming these special relationships was a silver lining of the past year.
Family and friends are welcome to visit with the family at The Wasatch Lawn and Memorial Park Mortuary between 9 and 10 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2018. A graveside service will follow at 10:30 a.m. Following the service, there will be a celebration of Vicki's life at The Country Club from 12:30 until 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Utah.

My husband and I went to school with Vicki. She and I were in the same graduating class of 1960. She was always bubbly, vivacious, sweet and kind! We are saddened to hear of her passing but we know she will bring cheerfulness and happiness to those on the other side. Those abilities were some of her great gifts! I am so glad she and I had a chance to visit and talk about school, family and life at a recent A. F. Class of 1960 Reunion at the high school. It was lovely. We leave our condolences with your family and friends, Vicki. God bless........

Vicki and I served together in Primary and that is where I really began to get to know her.She enjoyed children, her own she as well as others. I saw this both in her contributions in Primary and in teaching in Elementary school, We both taught school and I had taken two year break and soon not too long after the two years were over, she called to ask if I could teach part time at her school for about 7 months. That gave me a chance to see her concern for the children she taught, and her efforts to help them in ways they needed. I already knew of her love and concern for her own children and family, and I appreciated being able to see the love and concern she extended to the many other children with whom she interacted. I send my best to Jerry, and to her children Gerald, Martha, Joseph and Michael. Love Eileen

Vicki and I became best friends when we were assigned to live together in the DG House. We immediately formed a bond that perservered through apartments and our first year of teaching. We spent lots of hours talking and watching our kids have fun playing. We spent years going to plays at Pioneer Memorial Theatre, meeting at half time at U football games and basketball games and going to lunch. My children have very happy memories of Vicki and the Knudson kids. Vicki served for a long as Primary President while her children were that age and loved her calling and served well. She maintained a strong testimony of her Father in Heaven and his plan for families. Family was always her priority and that's where she concentrated her energy especially in these last few months. I will miss her beautiful smile and knowing comments on many different topics. It is a darker world without Vicki here with us. I know I will see her again and see that cute smile and receive a warm hug. Pam Benson
