"Husband, Dad, Grandpa"
Virgil Eugene Hammond, 60 years old passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2012 in his home unexpectedly in West Valley City, Utah. He was born June 26, 1951 in Twin Falls, Idaho. Married Flora Jean Mellor on September 12, 1972.Virgil lived for and loved his family. He was devoted to his calling in the LDS church. He was always trying to make people laugh. He took much pride in his education and his MBA Degree.He was preceded in death by his parents, Ada & Clifford; siblings, Pat & Shirley and two grandchildren. Survived by his wife, Flora; children: Russell (Sonja), Richard (Cheri), Rachael (Cody), Melanie (Thomas), April (Shaun); siblings: Eldon (Joyce), Rick (Linda) and eight grandchildren.Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2012, 12:00 noon at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road with a viewing 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to the funeral services. Interment: Buried Locally.

I came across Virgil's obit by accident and want to pay tribute to my High school friend these many years later. (2023) Virgil was well liked and respected by all. Was his own man but would go out of his way to lend a hand if he saw you where in need. Always had a smile hand a out stretched hand for you when you needed it. You will be missed pal. My love and condolences go out to the Hammonds.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Virgil's passing. He was such a kind and funny person and a real pleasure to work with. He was always so happy to talk about his children, my condolences to his family.

Dearest Flora and family.
What a shock to loose your husband and father so suddenly. My children and I lost my husband and father to a fire in 2001 and so we have some idea of what it is like to go through this experience. Stay close to each other, allow all your feelings to ebb and flow, be patient with each other, as you begin your grieving process. It is a real and important process to allow yourselves to go through. I love your Mother and she is a strong woman and together you will become stronger, more compassionate and appreciate each other more. Virgil, no matter what the stresses that work brought, or the long days that can be. You were awesome, in so many ways. And it is with regret that maybe we didn't tell you this often enough. But I tell you now, and I hope you can hear me, that you were GREATLY appreciated!! You helped me in so many ways, and always with a smile. Your geniune care for what others had to go through would be apparent in your actions in trying to help solve them. I am going to miss your annoying whistleing down the hall ways, your laugh at your own jokes (it makes me smile just thinking about it) and above all the attention you gave to everyone who spoke to you. I am so sad right now, and I hope your family can pull through this in one peice, because they lost a great man, and they were lucky enough to have you. Rest well my friend.

Dear Hammond Family: My sincere and heartfelt condolences and sympathies to you all. I am the insurance agent for McNeil Group and have know Virgil for a number of years now and enjoyed working with him more closely this past year. He was a good honest man with integrity. Our conversations would turn to family and I knew he loved you all so very much. He received much joy and happiness from you and was so pleased in his children and grandchildren. Virgil was always a good friend when we were in the 33rd ward. We always shared a laugh or two during bishopric meeting. He was a great executive secretary. He will be greatly missed, but is having a great reunion with passed loved ones.
