Albert Casillas Obituary

Albert Michael Casillas
September 15, 1936 - October 15, 2025
Albert Michael Casillas, age 89, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2025, alongside his loving wife, Margaret. He was born on September 15, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas to Alfredo and Edmea Casillas.
Albert was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and partnered with his father in the family business at Casillas Poultry Place, while pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Business from St. Mary's University. Soon after, Albert's interest and fondness turned to teaching which led him to focus on obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Our Lady of the Lake University, leading to a Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in school administration.
Teaching was Albert's calling in life, with a career spanning 35 years between Edgewood and San Antonio Independent School Districts. The highlight of his professional career was serving as Principal of Kindred Elementary for 27 years. As Albert's retirement was approaching, he accepted a two-year position from the Archdiocese of San Antonio as Elementary and Middle School Principal at St. Cecilia's Catholic School. His work experience in the community extended into the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Program, and the After-School Challenge Program.
Albert's fondness and love for his wife, their three sons, grandchildren and great granddaughter, were central to his life, especially in his final days at home. Not a day went by that Albert and Margaret did not acknowledge their blessings. Faith played a huge role in Albert and Margaret's lives together as members of St. Pius X Catholic Church and Holy Spirit Catholic Church, which provided weekly Holy Eucharist. Their lives were blessed with the compassionate and loving support from Albert's nurse, Veronica Ruiz, and the VITAS Hospice Program.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ernest Casillas (Karen). Albert is survived by his wife of 63 years Margaret Mary Garza Casillas; brother Patrick Alfred Casillas (Holly); sons Michael Albert Casillas, DDS (Jessica), Mark Michael Casillas, MD (Kimberly), and Alfred Michael Casillas, JD (Diana); grandchildren Julian Alberto Casillas (Kara and great granddaughter Cora), Matthew Albert Casillas (Alyssa), Mary Morgan Casillas (Joshua Ingram), Elizabeth Anne Casillas, David Michael Casillas, Daniel Michael Casillas, and Olivia Marie Casillas.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 pm until 6:30 pm, on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Porter Loring Mortuary, with a memorial rosary to follow at 6:30 pm.
The Mass of Resurrection will take place on Friday, October 24, 2025, beginning at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3303 Urban Crest, San Antonio, Texas 78209. Following the Mass, there will be a procession to San Fernando II Cemetery for the Committal Service.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation, 909 NE Loop 410, Suite 903, San Antonio, Texas 78209.

Dear Margaret and Members of the Casillas Family,
Please accept my deepest and most sincere condolences. I am terribly sorry that Mr. Casillas has passed away. Do find solace in knowing that he will be remembered in my daily prayers and may his soul rest in peace.
I still have many fond and unforgettable memories of when I first met Mers. Casillas in the summer of 1971 as I was beginning my professional career as an educator with the South San Antonio ISD and he was the Principal at Kindred Elementary School. My office in the Bilingual Education Center was located across from his office and I looked forward to seeing him and visiting with him on a daily basis. Mr. Casillas was, besides an extraordinary human being, an excellent school administrator. I never heard one complain about him, either from parents, students, or teachers. He was loved by all who knew him. His warm and affable personality radiated to those around him. And yes, the world was a better place because of him, he touched so many lives through many decades of being a school administrator. So, cherish his memory with kindness and happiness as I know you will.
My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow and I pray that our loving God will grant you the strength and courage to accept His divine will.
With deepest sympathy,
J. Gilberto Quezada
