Alex H. Coy II

Alex H. Coy II passed away on Monday, May 7, 2012, at 80 years of age. He was born on April 6, 1932, in San Antonio, Texas. At the age of 16 he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served in the Korean War, earning among other medals, a Purple Heart. Alex Coy II is survived by his wife, Minnie Cavazos Coy (married 57 years), children: Alex H. Coy III, Yvonne Coy Riojas, DeeAnna Coy and John Coy; three sisters: Olivia Coy Morales, Stella Coy Walsh, and Odell Coy; grandchildren: Yvette Coy Salazar, Edward Coy Riojas, Alex H. Coy IV, Louis Coy and Adam Coy; great-grandson, Ezekiel Coy Peña; 41 nieces and nephews; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Alex Coy Sr., mother, Isidra Hernandez Coy, brothers, Rudy Coy and John H. Coy, and sister, Victoria Coy Ybarra. He worked as a Master Plumber and ran the plumbing divisions of the University of Texas Health Science Center, McCarley Plumbing Co., and Texas Plumbing Co. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping with his family, hunting and fishing. Alex was proud of his service in the Marines, his family history-the De Los Santos Coys were among the founders of San Antonio, having settled in San Antonio in 1716. He was a deacon at St. Dominic Church, active in the Knights of Columbus and in organizing family reunions. He loved being surrounded by his extensive family during the holidays, picnics and barbecues. The viewing will be Tuesday, May 15, from 1:00 - 9:00, p.m., with the Rosary prayed at 7:00, p.m. the same evening at Ortiz Mortuary on 3114 Culebra Road, San Antonio, Texas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Dominic Catholic Church located at 5919 Ingram Road, San Antonio, Texas, on Wednesday, May 16th, at 9:30, a.m. Burial will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:30, a.m.

Please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of your beloved. There are never any right words to express how deeply sad I am for the pain your family is enduring at this difficult time.

As Chair of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations, I am sincerely thankful for his valiant service in defense of our rights and freedom.

His commitment to family, friends, our community, and to serving our great nation leaves a wonderful legacy. May the love and the wonderful memories you shared with him help you when you need it most. He will never be forgotten, and your family will be remembered in my prayers.
