Anastacio Rivera Obituary

Anastacio (Joe) Rivera, 84, passed away on January 1, 2013.
He is survived by his wife; Mary Lou, his children; Mark, Rick (Linda), and Tammy Watson, and a stepdaughter; Christiana Lapetina. There are eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Joe was born in Terrero, New Mexico. He attended grade schools in Pecos and Santa Fe, New Mexico; attended Santa Fe High until he was 17 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II. He was proud to tell of his service, being on duty during the Atomic Bomb Tests at Bikini Atoll. He completed his GED while in the Navy. After his discharge he attended Woodbury College in Los Angeles and St. Michael's in Santa Fe. He worked at various jobs in Santa Fe and Kansas City, Missouri until his retirement in 1980.
He and Mary Lou moved to Omaha, NE and lived there until coming to Sun City West, AZ, in September 1988. Joe was an avid golfer and during his golfing days made five hole-in-ones. He loved sports of all kinds and followed the actions of football, basketball, golf, and baseball faithfully. He was proud of his 47 year record with Alcoholics Anonymous and served as a sponsor and mentor. The past few years his activities were playing pool and his daily workout. His pool companions considered him an expert. Sadly, his death was a result of injuries sustained at his most favorite activity, his daily workout. He was much loved and will be greatly missed.
Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, January 14, at 10:00 A.M. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Sun City West. Arrangements by Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel.
