Antonio Ordaz Obituary

ORDAZ
Antonio F. Ordaz: World War II Veteran, Knight of Columbus and Mariachi
Antonio F. Ordaz passed away on April 22, 2011. He was a proud veteran of World War II, a devout Catholic, a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and a musician. He served in the Army Air Force in Iwo Jima, landed before the flag was raised and was also stationed in Japan, North Africa and Hawaii. He played the guitar for most of his life thoroughly enjoying entertaining others and was a member of "The Antiques" musical group (average age 77) while living in Las Vegas, NV. He also played at mariachi masses, most recently at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. "My uncle was a charming, dapper and captivating gentleman who was dancing, bowling, performing and driving up until one week before he passed," said his niece Dr. Veronica Ordaz Collazo. He was born on February 21, 1917 in San Antonio, TX to Antonio Ordaz and Refugio Noriega, both deceased. He was pre-deceased by the mother of his children, Trinidad Ordaz; his second wife, Celia Ordaz and his grandson, Colt Taylor, as well as several of his siblings: Veronica Isenhower, Ruben San Emeterio, Amparo Saenz, Elizabeth Martinez, Armando Ordaz (WWII POW in Stalag 17) and Arturo Menchaca, killed in the Korean War and Purple Heart recipient. He is survived by his wife, Feliz Ordaz; children, Sylvia Taylor, Dolores Herrera and Rogelio Ordaz; sisters, Santos Vasquez and Catherine King; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held on April 28, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 4222 SW Loop 410. Mr. Ordaz will be cremated and his ashes interred in Las Vegas, NV.

We are very sorry for your loss, your pain is our's also. I remember when he lived in Las Vegas. He would always call to check and say Hi to his Granddaughter Stephanie and my own other two children. He would always tell me not to address him as Mr. Ordaz to call him Tony, Mr. Ordaz made him feel old. He was so Happy when Stephanie spend some time in Vegas with him.
