A.P. Jennings Obituary
February 14, 1952 - October 23, 2025
Andrew Palestine Jennings, Jr., better known as "A.P." by his family and friends, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 73. He was born on February 14, 1952, in Austin, Texas, to parents Vera Elfrieda (Mergele) and Andrew Palestine Jennings. A.P. lost his parents at a young age and was partially raised by his stepmother, Doris Lawrence Jennings. He overcame these challenges and developed a strong work ethic, starting off with a paper route in the hills of central Austin.
A.P. graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in accounting and remained a Longhorns fan for life. He spent his entire career in San Antonio with the accounting firm that would eventually become Ernst and Young and retired as a partner. Throughout his career he was a respected colleague, mentor and friend to many.
While A.P.'s career took him to many places, he was happiest in Texas. Whether sitting in a deer blind in the Hill Country, boating on lake LBJ, or fishing off the Gulf coast, he loved his home state and remained a proud Texan for his entire life. You could also frequently find him at his favorite Mexican restaurants and the annual stock show and rodeo.
A.P. was a loving and devoted father and grandfather and he spent many happy years with Susan, who loved and supported him until the very end. He was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Leigh Ann Jennings. A.P. is survived by his son, Andrew W. Jennings and wife Kathleen, grandchildren Maxwell and Emilia; sister Joanne Riley and husband Richard, brother Clyde Jennings and wife Debbie; his partner of 23 years Susan Johns and son Michael, and many other family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 E.
Pastors Jennifer Gold and Dave Schulte will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to a favorite charity.
