Arthur Van Overborg Obituary

VAN OVERBORG
Mr. Arthur O. Van Overborg age 93 of San Antonio went to be with the Lord and his beloved wife on Monday, April 7, 2014. Mr. Van Overborg was a loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather and though he was born in Ghent, Belgium, his family came to Texas when he was an infant. He was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard and served aboard the USS Vance, a Navy destroyer escort, during World War II. He was a life long farmer and rancher, and also retired from Lone Star Brewery. Although he believed hard work was the answer to everything, he enjoyed fishing with his family. Mr. Van Overborg was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Gladys L. Van Overborg and a son, Daniel Van Overborg. He is survived by his children: Mark Van Overborg and wife Sandra, Carolyn Milligan, Jerry Van Overborg and wife Joan, Art Van Overborg and wife Julie, Sandy Dziuk and husband Mark; daughter-in-law, Maureen Van Overborg; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will begin Thursday at 5:30 P.M. in The Angelus Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be offered Friday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Brigid Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Fernando Archdiocesan Cemetery No.2. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Brigid Catholic Church, 6907 Kitchener, San Antonio, Texas 78240. a great man that had to be one of the hardest working men I've known and what he taught me. He would work on his farm, go to work at the Lone Star Brewery and to back to work at the farm, a never ending job. it was fun during firework season working all day long. I will forever be grateful and thankful for having had the fortune of knowing Mr. Van Overborg
