His achievements include a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Upon his discharge from the U.S. Army, he embarked on numerous business ventures which included A & M Food Market, La Fuente Party House, Disco Fantasy, and Arturo's Ballroom. His love of music led to the creation of the first Super Dance in 1976. His success in the industry was recognized in 2001 when he received the National Hispanic Music Hall of Fame Award and the Tejano Music Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. Arturo's passion for business was reflected in his continued desire to manage his current ventures despite his physical limitations. His creativity, risk taking and hard work ethic will remain an inspiration to his family. I feel blessed to have been able to know Arturo for over 34 years. His daughter Lisa has been my dearest friend since 3rd grade at St. James. It was so much fun growing up and experiencing so many wonderful times with the Villarreal family. Arturo was so generous and he was always so vibrant and funny and always a man of honor. He and Mary were so kind to invite me along on family trips to Galveston, New Orleans, and New York City. My family could never afford to take me there, but Arturo treated me like family. He also gave me my first job at the Bingo. I always wanted to work at the store too! Arturo taught me about hard work and dedication. You didn't work for Arturo, you worked with Arturo. He worked hard every day and never gave up on life. He did it all for his love of family and community. He will never be replaced. He will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences to the Villarreal family.
With love,
Michelle Garibay- Carey

I met Mr. Arturo Villarreal and his lovely wife Mary and daugthers, when I was a young girl around 8 or 9 years old. Mr. villarreal was a very nice and generous man, I remember that he would alway let me (fiar/charge) groceries when we needed to, and as i grew older, around 18 years of age, this is when disco was Hot!! and Tejano music was the real thing I got to work at La Fuente Party House/Disco Fantasy, selling the tickets. This is when Little Joe, Monsanto, Jimmy Edwards & Liberty Band and so many other good bands played and La Fuente OMG(so nostalgic) I can just see him now with his big smile, business was booming for him. I pray that Mary and his daughters find comfort in knowing that he is in paradise now with our Heavenly Father. May God Bless you all in this time of grieving.

I remember Arturo well, he was always such a wonderful person. I spent alot of time with my grandparents (William & Elvira Hernandez) and my aunt (Hortencia Hernandez), as a child they lived on E Thompson Place and we were aways at A&M for one thing or another and in later years I would go to his clubs. Always a very generous man with a smile on his face. He will be missed in the neighborhood. May he Rest in Peace.

Arturo, like a picture and an old song, the mention of your name will always start a 1000 conversations and bring back a 1000 memories. I still remember the house party at your house behind the store. Thanks for providing a venue for the San Anto sound. My prayers go out to the family and thanks for supporting him on his ventures. Because of him, a memory was created.
